Deleting Default Aircraft

I’ve flown all default aircraft at least once and I now know there are several I will never fly again…just no interest. I have two questions:

  1. Will I save any load time or improve performance by deleting these aircraft using the “Content Manager”? In other words…is there any advantage to deleting them?
  2. Will I also lose my AI traffic population?

Any other issues I did not think to ask?

Thanks,

Garry

You should be fine, I deleted all aircraft contents that I’ll never fly anyway. I only keep the Cesna 172, and TBM 930 because those two are part of the core mandatory content and you can’t delete them. And the Airbus A320neo that I only use for my Air Traffic. I only fly the FBW A32NX aircraft and the Headwind’s A330-900neo aircraft.

Probably won’t improve performance, but maybe a better loading time since it doesn’t need to load as many aircraft as it does. But it’s probably only marginal. The advantage here is actually saving some space in your storage drive. And less clutter when you’re on the aircraft selection screen. Since you’ll only see aircraft that you have install and want to fly.

No, because the mandatory core content has a Generic Air Traffic model that you can’t see and delete. So even though the AI traffic no longer spawn as the deleted aircraft, it would still spawn as it still has the generic air traffic model that it can use.

You can also use this AI traffic mod as well if you’re interested. But this requires you to keep the default A320neo installed.

I too have deleted most of the default aircraft – with no problems at all. It frees up a lot of disk space.

You can delete everything but the C152 and the TBM. There may be a few more “mandatory” planes now that the base edition is the Game of The Year.

well some bush trip activities will disappear or crash if you select them because they are tied to a specific aircraft. But that doesnt bother me. Hate all those generic aircraft liveries too Orbit World travel etc.

I got rid of a bunch of planes too but cant seem to get rid of the Pitts. It refuses to go. No probs here and save s bunch of space.

Another tip - if you find you dont use the stock Aviators Club , Kenmore liveries you can remove them for all planes, they take up a huge chunk of space.

Also is anyone else seeing multiple PC-6 Porters? Its like they are all in separate folders instead of one folder and then the liveries under that.

In the aircraft selection we should only see 2 PC-6 (glass and steam gauge)

You can just delete bush trip activities through the content manager as well. When I did my clean up, I start by deleting “everything” through the content manager. This include flying lessons/training, bush trips, landing challenges, etc. Only the Core Mandatory content is the only one installed since we can’t remove them. I guess for now is there’s additional content form the GOTY edition that is also mandatory and can’t be removed.

Then I only install the content that I want, the A320 aircraft, and the handcrafted airports that I need. Even the handcrafted airports that I don’t need, I keep them out.

I guess the follow up question is will they be downloaded and installed again with every SU.

yes I just checked certain Bush trips dont appear in the activities menu if the associated aircraft isnt installed.

No. When you uninstall them through the content manager, they stay uninstalled. Because it syncs with your cloud account telling it that you deliberately uninstall the content. (Assuming that you are online and logged into your cloud account when you actually make the content removal activities)

If an SU automatically install something, it’s most likely another mandatory or even an optional content that is new to that SU. Not an old content that you have previously uninstalled.

Good to know. I’d hate to have to do it after every SU.

Not everything re-downloads if you just delete the folder. I was having issues with the G1000NXi and decided to go back to default, so after quitting the program, I just moved that folder from the Official section to my desktop and restarted the sim. It just showed up as “Not Installed” in my Content Manager after the restart.

So the stock Airbus with this bugged cockpit doorframe visuals and the Simpleton747 (both are deleted and a few more but not many) are now lost for AI traffic?
Is the AI adding DLC airplanes from the Community folder like the FlyByWire Airbus?

I know that the AI is adding payware airplanes like the DC6 Cloudmaster because I have already seen this plane parking on airports sometimes. But I have never seen the Carenado Mooney M20 on any airport so far.

Thanks all…that was really helpful. Now off to do some housekeeping.

You can try moving those folders to a separate unrelated folder temporarily, to ensure that you have not lost critical files if you need them.

You can hit the delete button then only when you’re happy.

No, there are two sets of aircraft object folders. One is for the player character, which with exception of base aircraft in the Standard (now GOTY) model, can be removed at will using Content Manager in the sim. The other is a series of AI Generic Aircraft (i.e., Generic twin-engine airliner, Generic four-engine airliner, etc). As long as those models are part of the AI Generic Aircraft, they cannot be deleted by the player. You could try deleting the actual folders (assuming you have the rights, Steam yes, MS Store no), but I suspect the next time you double-click the launcher, it will download those missing files.

I used the content manager to do delete the stuff that I don’t use.

On the content manager screen, Space Used is 65GB. I have about 60GB in my community folder. And 32GB rolling cache.

But the size of the MSFS folder is 240GB.

What am I doing wrong? Do I have to delete the folders that I don’t need from the ‘Official Folder’?

Or is 240GB the best it can get?

Any help will be appreciated!

The base game is about 110GB (even after GOTY). Add your 65GB of Content Manager (planes, scenery, Bush Trips, Discovery, etc) and 60 GB in Community - that’s close to 240GB. I think what you’re seeing is cumulative?

Ahh, didn’t realise the base game would be an additional 90GB or so. Though that was included in what was displayed in the Content Manager as 65GB.

Thanks for letting me know!

Be sure you uninstall all the ugly Asobo liveries first.
