There’s been a ton of threads regarding poor photogrammetry, Bing data, etc.
I just rewatched the link video where Jorg talks about the World Improvements. Did any of this make it into the Sim? I’m seeing Bing data and photogrammetry from ~2013 in places like NYC.
They showed maps and gave a number of 500 total TIN cities in 2024, however there hasn’t been a single new TIN city since the last CU/WU for 2020.
Is this the TOTAL number they HOPE to reach by 2028? Because there certainly aren’t 500 TIN cities ATM. Sadly, many seem to be more boring midwestern US cities, with a few nice surprises in Africa and Japan (would be nice to have a huge TIN Tokyo region).
How do you know there hasn’t been a single new TIN city since the last WU for 2020? This is all now on the servers, there are no more updates with PGG files downloaded to our PCs.
If so, then it was in 2020. There is only one red dot (new addition to 2024) in FL and it looks like St Augustine. Most of FL is PG’d not TIN, you can tell because PG wants to make everything into a cube, while TIN has more granular detail (mostly compared to wax/clay).
Now let’s just cross our fingers this is actually true and that a release won’t be painfully slow and staggered. We were all excited from the global event of new imagery covering the US and elsewhere, but yeah delayed. For me, I’m specifically hoping for the Chicago area to be improved in quality and coverage space. West of ohare is generic and inaccurate to real life. Missing buildings and key icons on approach into Ohare. I recall Jorg saying they wanted to ensure at least all airports had good coverage around the airport so that approaches would be realistic
We’ll see. I hope we get official statements from Jorg on it too. Last he said was some months ago that the new shared world of 2020 &20204 would be 1-2 months delayed post launch from being implemented. Once done, you’ll see the same stuff in both sims. So maybe then? Idk
