Difficult landing in New Zealand with the airbus A320

You can takeoff whereever you want in New Zeland, fly to the NZQN airport, use the RNAV 05 approach, via IBABU and the ELRUA2A STAR to land out there.

Tip : activate the constraints button (CSTR, near the altimeter setting) to have the altitudes displayed while processing the approach.

I’m bookmarking this… Challenge accepted… stand by for the YouTube livestream and recording.

FYI, that approach isn’t authorized for A320 nor any large airliner. Cat C and D is NA.

But yeah, that makes it the challenge.

Edit: I just noticed I was looking at the Z. RNAV 05 Y is authorized for Cat C and D.

I stand corrected.

I usually just look at the runway length. If it’s more than 1000 metres… I can land the A320 on it, even if I have to play around with the weight and load.

I tried doing RNAV 23 here on the modded A320. It didn’t work well at all. Thankfully it was VFR.

I think I’m going to try this on another (Ahem!) simulator with a more complete Airbus. For an RNP approach, that’s pretty intense. Even the missed approach looks skippy.

3.2 degree FPA, with 278 DH. That’s not too bad…

Nah, it’s not when it follows the waypoints correctly. :joy:

I’d say being fully configured before the IAF will yield good results. The drag will help with that 3.2 angle.

Noted thanks for the tips. Fingers crossed.

NZQN is never VFR… :joy:

Streaming is Live… I hope I don’t screw this up in front of audience, lol.

OMG !! My sim CTD right when I was about to land… :scream: :confounded:
This is valid reason for a ragequit…

Now I understand why you said this. Hahaha. But wow… that was a fun approach. Thanks for the challenge, @gilligan841… Not too bad for my first time flying here. It’s a shame that I got CTD on that last portion otherwise I would’ve buttered that landing.

But I’m not giving up… I’ll fly this approach again tomorrow and fingers crossed no more CTD. (I’d probably remove some mods out just so I can ensure the sim’s stability)

Nice !

This end-of-lake-in-the-mountains landing looks a lot like Lugano, Switzerland (LSZA) which I love to exercise on (steep, short final approach)… In real life you wouldn’t land there with airliners like the A320, but the runway is 1420m, so Neo4316 can certainly do it too ! You really need to use everything you have to slow down the plane there before the approach and try to drop like a brick in the end… So if you need to go and buy swiss chocolate, that’s another challenge !

Holy moly… 6.65 degrees of glideslope? That’s even more steep than the London City airport. With a shorter runway too… and I thought London City was bad enough… I don’t know how I can land in LSZA with an A320. But I sure hell will give it a go…

Ouch. You were lined up so well too!

Far out
Reliability should be #1 on the developers backlogs. Between the flaky installation/upgrade process, and the ctds, it’s getting hard to spend the time.

Approaches like this and in VQPR are broken by default A/P so the only good plane to fly them is CJ4 by Workingtitle.
I prefer RNAV23 BTW

Wut. https://youtu.be/NAsEPZw_Y4c

Nice! but if you want a real challenge, try LDSP rwy 23!

I read the chart just now… yea…no thanks…

i almost landed in Ocho Rio, Jamaica (Ian Fleming International) yesterday. Then i saw it had no taxiway so i diverted to Kingston. Then when i flipped on VR for descent/approach (it was pitch black out so don’t ask why) and the computer reverted back to my old plan to Ocho Rio(which didn’t have a star lol). Not sure if it was an issue with VR or the A321 mod i was using but i got kind of upset and rage quit. now i wish i tried the landing
