Direct Storage Nvidia RTX IO

Please bring RTX IO as soon as possible.
The Sim could really profit from this feature!

NVIDIA RTX IO GPU-Accelerated Storage Technology Debuts This Month In Portal: Prelude RTX and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart | GeForce News | NVIDIA

Wow 3 Years Later, since the announcement and finally released.

Now we just need Asobo to implement it

does the game support Directstorage for windows already? I don’t remember reading it does. Or AMD SMart access memory… for that matter.

Which they will do for MSFS 2028

Not really sure

 I hope not

some of the benchmarks clearly show this is a very beneficial tech that Asobo should look to add ASAP. I’m sure 2024 will have it, because why not, but we should get this in 2020. Please bump this and support the Feature vote!

yep, this is the game sure have the most data stream to load real time ever. All the maps around the world, for sure they will implement it. I believe it will be soon, in the actual FS, and then 2024 will come with it.
When playing in VR, every look around is stream load a lot of lod tiles. So, the benefit is huge!

The thing about DirectStorage (RTX IO is the nvidia flavour of it) is that while it’s very beneficial specially the version 1.2 which adds support for GPU decompression to free up CPU bottlenecks, the game probably needs to be designed with this thing in mind.

I mean you can look at how few released games have actually have it. I know of only two released games that uses this technology and one of them only came out yesterday (Ratchet and Clank Rift apart, the other one is Forespoken). There is a Portal mod which uses RTX io (Not directstorage, but some Vulcan API extensions) but that too doesn’t replace the core game’s storage pipeline to make use of this tech, but rather only for the mod’s textures and geometry. This tech came (RTX IO) out in late 2020, with the release of RTX 3000 gpus, direct storage came even later, so MSFS featureset was already set in stone back then. And the storage pipeline is something that must have been completed much before it was even released to beta. So you can understand that the game was not designed with RTX IO/DirectStirage in mind.

This tech is supposed to be analogous to PS5s storage pipeline with custom decompression silicon. Xbox Series X have something similar in place. This is for PC, but the game needs to designe it’s data streaming pipeline with this in mind. And that’s a very fundamental part of a game (changing which may not be trivial at all).

For MSFS 2024 from what they have shown so far, I am hopeful that this tech will be used, BUT, I won’t be at all surprised if it’s NOT utilized because they may not update the data streaming pipeline, but only move more stuff to cloud from disk. This actually also causes some worry for me for 2024 as users with slower internet speed may be impacted badly. But that’s something we will have to wait and see.

interesting comments. I’d hope 2024 has this as it’s an Xbox feature and useful for PC. sending higher compressed data over web and having GPU unpack it with less load on CPU is right where this game could see benefits. I’m sure it’s not easy, and more importantly, adding anything to 2020 vs building 2024 is going to be a priority. 2020 will likely see no structural changes in favor of a far better 2024. As long as VR is in 2024, I’ll be patient.

pls upvote feature so we at least get on the radar and a yea or Nay on it coming to 2020, and some insight on it being in 2024.
