Just noticed this after completely getting lost trying to get to a VOR.
Apparently, if you are in a banking turn, and you activate “Active Pause” gyroscope will continue turning during the pause, completely throwing off its reading against magnetic compass.
You have to re-calibrate gyro after the Active Pause.
Here is the quick video of what it looks like:
Yes, on active pause the simulation keeps running. You’re just stationary in position. I tend not to use Active pause until they reworked the system. I just use true pause (ESC) when I want to pause.
I suspect the “active pause” code freezes the physical position of the aircraft, but other things, including the avionics and velocity changes and so on, do not seem to stop. If you want to pause, just use ESC or map a controller button to the pause that goes to the options menu.
Hi,
Just to expand on what PaulRobson was saying, you can use ‘conventional’ pause and assign a key to it. I have mine set to ‘P’ and ‘CTRL’‘P’ … look for them in the ‘Miscellaneous’ section. Unfortunately, it’s not a toggle - you need a key for pause and another for unpause. (See image)
This will completely pause the sim, but you can still move the camera.
Only limitations are that it won’t work in multiplayer (I think), or when airplane is being controlled by AI. By the way, if you use ‘Active Pause’ while the plane is being flown by AI co-pilot Charlie, strange (and often bad) things usually happen…
