Disable scratches and smudges from the windshield

I’ve been flying with the 172 and have really been enjoy the new flightsim. Something that takes away from the pretty views sometimes is the smudges and Scratches on the windshield and windows. It would be nice if there was a option to change that.

I appreciate the realism but yes it w ould be nice to turn that option off.

I have to agree. I keep thinking my monitor screen is smudged. LOL. At least make it an option to turn off, for those that are really into that level of immersion. I’d rather have controls that work instead of saying “inop” than a smudged window…

On Option\General\Graphic try Windshield Effect ultra to off

“Windshief Effect” only goes to Low. It doesn’t go to “off,” and the smudges on the windshield are still present in “low.”

■■■■! And I went through a quart of Windex! Now you tell me!

I guess you could use xconvert to convert the dds into a png:

C172SP_AIRFRAME_WINDSHIELD_ALBD.PNG.DDS

Photoshop the smudges and use xconvert to reexport to png.

I haven’t tested it yet, but this is what I used to do in xp11. The smudges are not bothering me so much.

Never flown 150/152 or 170 that didn’t have some small scratches on the window’s somewhere, love this attention to detail, makes the sim seem even more real, plus the nice window reflections too, but each to there own, I guess some consol players fly with 3rd person view too :flushed:

My big fat Greek Wedding

Since this got auto bumped by the forum …

There is mod that might help those wanting this option on PC.

Good grief, did not realise there was bunch of us simmers needing clean windows, this is getting ridiculous! I personally prefer my dirty windows but I do keep cleaning my monitor just to make sure!

If the Bugs on the TBM930 cockpit glass are bugging you try this.

To get rid of the dirty cockpit glass in the TBM 930 you first need to download this Improvement Mod from here

I give full credit to the authors of this mod and I have no clue how to create the magic these people do.

It seem reasonable to me that a small part of this modification is to give the TBM930 a clean cockpit screen then that part may be able to be applied to the sim separately. This proved to be the case and all my various TBM930 Liveries now have a clear screen. All the various changes in this mod have to be applied direct to the sim files and not the ‘Community Folder’ I have no idea if this will work on any other aircraft types by changing the aircraft name.

I would strongly suggest you first make a copy of your ‘TEXTURE’ folder and keep it safe (quicker) or do as I did and rename the original files by appending ‘OLD’ to the beginning of each one of the 5 files your about to replace or overwrite. This method may not be as quick but could be safer if this folder is updated with new aircraft from Microsoft Updates or just do both. I presume any official updates to the TBM930 may overwrite these new files so keep the original mod.
Extract the improvement mod and navigate to SimObjects/Airplanes/Asobo_TBM930/Texture, these are the 5 files you want to copy into the TEXTURE Folder which on my PC is located here.

Your Drive:?\MSFlight Sim\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Official\OneStore\asobo-aircraft-tbm930\SimObjects\Airplanes\Asbo_TBM930\TEXTURE. Note: This may be different for Steam users.
