Ok, I know I can stop using it but…
I wish I can disable the map in options so during a flight with 152 I’ll be forced to find the right direction without the temptation to press the devil V key.
Unbind the shortcut and remove it from the top menu?
Won’t disable it completely but will make it much harder to get at.
I know but I already unbind auto start, external views and already turned off taxi strip but could be funny to have a sort of PROFESSIONAL difficult level where you can’t have any sort of help.
That’s actually the true challenge… It’s not about not having access to it… But to actually have access to it, but you also have to force yourself not to use it. Taking it away is actually making it easier because you have no choice in the matter. But having it accessible and the choice to do so but you have to fight the urge and choose not to use it. That’s the real challenge.
But as long as you use the top menu bar gear and just turn off the whole items from the top menu. That should work just as fine. I almost never opened the VFR map myself.
I only use the map when I’m taxying, to find my way around.
Agreed 100%
I just use the tiny taxi ribbon mod to make it very small and green like the taxiway centre lights to blend it together. It’s like not having any aids, but it’s there to guide me through the taxiway.
I used to use them in sims a while back, now I just use the map, and find my own way to the runway.
It seems just too “cheesy” for me.
Same when landing, but at small airports I find my own way while looking for the empty gate with a marshaller and baggage/catering vehicles.
At big airports I just go to the first empty gate.
Lol, like looking for a parking spot in your local supermarket… Then you have other aircrafts also looking for a gate, and you see each other and had to “fight” on who gets to park there first.
I was here first, yeah, but I’m bigger!!
VFR pilots do use maps though. Paper maps, that are too big to completely unfold in the cabin, and they don’t have a moving location pointer on them.
In the bush trips challenges the sim seems to offer a limited VFR map: it’s the map, with the route but without the aircraft icon showing you where you are. Maybe Aboso can add this as difficulty option for custom flights as well?
