Disabled Flight Simulator Add-Ons: Software Glitch or Widespread Approval Issue?

I’m encountering an issue where many add-on products in Flight Simulator are disabled, displaying a message from the creator that they’re “not approved.” Is this a software-related problem, or are other users experiencing the same thing? Is this correct?

You can still right click and activate them and they will work …but some may have minor bugs that need to be sorted!

As another user has said this is present for all users for those addons. Even though they were included with the purchase of the Aviator Edition they are still not technically creator approved (or I believe the verbiage was updated to “Unverified” with SU2). They can be enabled and used and in most cases function, but I would expect them to have a higher-than-average volume of issues.

Thank you for the information you provided. Unfortunately, I had to reinstall the simulator completely. After the installation, it has been quite buggy, laggy, and crashes almost every time.

What happened that forced you to reinstall the sim?

The reason I decided to reinstall the simulator is that I had just completed my first long-haul flight, from EHAM (Amsterdam) to RJBB (Osaka). The flight went smoothly, and I shut down my PC for a break afterwards. A few hours later, I wanted to do another flight and, for added realism, I installed the Horizon Dreamliner 787-9.

Unfortunately, that’s when the problems began. While I was able to start the simulator and load a flight, the Horizon aircraft didn’t function properly — it had pink wings and no cockpit displays. I restarted the game, but it crashed. I then restarted my PC and launched the sim again, but it crashed once more. I tried starting in Safe Mode, which worked at first, but as soon as I loaded a new free flight, the simulator crashed again.

After another restart, I waited patiently during the loading screen, restarted again (this time avoiding Safe Mode), and noticed that many settings had been turned off — likely due to the earlier crashes. I re-enabled them and, shortly after, the simulator crashed again. I removed the Horizon aircraft, but the crashes persisted. Eventually, I uninstalled and reinstalled the simulator entirely, but the issues continued.

At that point, I decided to go back to MSFS2020. So, is the game itself bad? I’m not sure — but the experience was incredibly frustrating, especially after such a great long-haul flight. I hope this gives you a clear idea of what happened and answers your question.

I never understand the whole remove and re-install thing!

Most issues are just caused by the sim being a bit ‘sensitive’
I have experienced many CTD’s…sometimes it will take me 3 or 4 go’s to get it started!

Most issues (my personal opinion!) are caused by third party addons, pc/xbox setup, hardware etc etc as most issues seem to have a very mixed response from users.

The starting in safe mode (I did try that in the early days when getting the 60ish % load CTD’s / stuck issues) just meant I had a load of work to do re adding all the A/C back into the working library.
I have since discovered that just exiting the program (use Task manager if needed !), restart the PC and try again selecting ‘continue’ mode …mostly it loads fine second time around …but that said, sometimes 3 or 4 attempts are needed before it works …but nothing else.!

Who knows, maybe a re install might make it better…but I am very happy with 24 at the moment and dont want to change anything! …waiting a couple of extra minutes for it to start is not a big deal!

Like I said, just my opinion …so please don’t shoot me down if you don’t agree!

You installed a broken unsupported add-on which didn’t function and caused crashes. You then decide to uninstall everything and go back to 2020 with the conclusion that 2024 must be broken.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience—I really appreciate your perspective! You’re absolutely right that a full uninstall/reinstall is overkill most of the time, and that MSFS can be a bit finicky about third-party add-ons or how our PCs are set up.

I did go in and remove the Horizon Dreamliner mod completely, but even after that the sim kept crashing—so it wasn’t just that one add-on. What’s weird is that today, without changing anything else, it’s suddenly working again.

I’m not pointing fingers at the core sim itself; it ran my long-haul to Osaka perfectly fine before all this started. I’m wondering now if there might have been some hiccup on Asobo’s end—there were reports of server outages affecting Spain, Portugal, and France recently, which could’ve interfered with certain Live-World features or mod authentication.

At this point I can’t pinpoint the exact culprit, but I’m glad to hear your tips on exiting via Task Manager and rebooting. I’ll keep those in my back pocket next time I hit a CTD, and maybe next time I’ll hold off on the big reinstall until I’ve tried a few quick restarts first!

I have been having the same “pink wings” issue with the 787-9 and unable to find out why. I have the Premium Deluxe version of MSFS2024 which includes the 797-10. I have downloaded the -9 from both ORBX and Headwind. Same result. Even tried installing the 787-9 liveries from Hue.

As to the other issue about starting MSFS2024, I regularly encounter the sim getting to the start page then closing down (CTD) almost every time I add something new to my Community folder. I have even had it occur once in awhile with a Marketplace purchase. Seems to be par for the course with MSFS2024 so far. My conjecture is something to do with so much streaming back and forth to the servers and possible interruptions either with my ISP and/or my PC checking e-mail or some virus checking. Then there are suspect 3rd party developers who don’t check their offerings.

Let’s face it, MSFS2020 is much more stable. Unfortunately, fo some reason I can’t seem to get it re-installed. Otherwise, my life would be easier. I wonder if XPlane 12 is more stable?

I often wonder why I do so little flying, while most of my simulator time is spent troubleshooting. Aggravating, to say the least.

OK just tried to fire up 24 (worked fine last night and I have changed nothing!)
Took me 3 goes to get it started …2 x freezes at the 62% load …third time no problem loaded fine.

As I said in my post above, ok I had to wait a few extra minutes - but how many people give up, throw their hands in the air because it didn’t load first or second time!

This to me is some sort of server thing rather than game related …so reinstalling probably won’t do much at all!

I have some that say permanently disabled.

Yes, those are third party addons that will have to receive upgrades to become 2024-native rather than updates to the 2020 version to become just 2024-compatible or may never be compatible in 2024.

Actually they were liveries of the default A320 that now no longer exists in 2024.
