Disassembling an old Saitek ST90

Hi
I want to make a DIY helicopter cyclic from a joystick, and, in order to spend as little as possible in case I ruin it, I have bought a second-hand Saitek ST90. Extremely cheap, a big spring aparently easy to eliminate to avoid auto-centering, and a very thin base I could fix in near anything.
But… when unmounting the stick, after taking out all the screws, I find that the upper part of the stick plastic cover is somehow still fixed to the buttons part.
I am nearly sure there has to be some small plastic tab somewhere, and that there is one and only one way to open it without breaking it apart.
Has anybody out there opened one of these old things, and can give some advice about how to unmount it without breaking anything?
(All I have found in internet is about newer models, that look like if they can be opened just like magic only unscrewing and gently pulling)
