Discussion: E3 Announcement

Haha, that title is just for those who were in the PC alpha or beta

Pretty much zero details were shared so we’ll have to wait, I’m afraid.

The press release didn’t even mention it.

Fingers crossed we get the F-14 along with the superbug

Most likely the same as with the Acceleration pack in FSX.
A working aircraft carrier and an F/A18.

@VortecMalibu
I don’t think so. Way too complex, plus multi crew.

You got the series x or s?

Series x, was lucky enough to buy one on launch day from Walmart. Bought it specifically for MSFS2020!

Which is obviously great news, but ā€œannouncedā€ vs ā€œdeliveredā€ is a huge step and we all know HC’s shortcomings with the delivery of Alpha/Bravo products and how almost all customers (myself included) had to wait for more than half a year to get their order completed. Some people have been in the queue for longer than that and are waiting still. So, great news but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

I feel sorry for you guys :frowning: . I see the alpha yoke is stock pretty much all year in local flightsim store in South Korea.

Other improvements, unless the E3 video is just a polished and unrepresentative snapshot, and on past form that’s not beyold the realms of probability:

  1. reflections are much improved - ray tracing being introduced?
  2. trees - there seems to be a wider variety, more types. And unless I’m mistaken there is some evidence of seasons (not all trees have the usual green leaves).

Whatever happens the next few months should be interesting.

Given that it appears that many are still waiting for their Xbox then HC products being delayed shouldn’t be a problem.

LOL, why so negative! I think it’s safe to say PC will share Xbox features from the DX12U update but of course a marketing video is exactly that. Looking forward to the Top Gun update, Kenny Loggins playlist ready!

I definately think some of these visual updates/improvements are a direct result of the DX12U update, very interesting.

The XBox launch and DX12 were expected, the TopGun expansion pack wasn’t.

This an amazing surprise and I understand now we won’t be able to predict MS next move for a while, they really now what they are doing on the marketing side.

However, I can’t imagine the human ressources this expansion pack needs and I am a little bit concerned about the amount of bugs which are not fixed yet. I mean the World Map is buggy as hell and all of that. And don’t tell me they are not the same people coding the World Map and the expansion pack.

How much time would Asobo need to create a taxi ribbon toggle ? 30min? And it hangs on their to-do liste for months now.

Do they know we are currently unable to follow ATC instructions on the ground because of that?

I love new features but could we have the possibility to fly properly a flight from A to B with ATC without additional addons first?

Business is business. New content makes more buzz than bug fixes. And audience prefer a Tom Cruise avatar than a working ATC.

We just have to tell them we don’t

I agree fully.

A lot of these bugs are stupid, sloppy and simple to fix. But they’re not fixed. In stead they make a lot of hoohaa about contrails and smoke… come to think of it: smoke might be a screen…

It really feels they’re just pushing this train towards the x-box… the only advantage I see is that when they extend their customer base through the x-box, the current bugs will become higher priority? I hope…

Usually I’d agree, and yes, a big part is ofc about money to keep things running. All those, servers, experts, coders, project managers, third party studios that were integrated, community managers and other people involved do cost money, they need to eat. However, before every big project a company starts, you go through many risk calculations and worst case scenarios. I don’t believe for a second that microsoft expected SUCH a HUGE response and enthusiasm for this new flightsim, it literally exploded. They were taken by surprise for sure and this makes me so happy to see! Thank YOU ALL for supporting this dream. And now to the thing I wanted to say: I believe MsFs is A LOT more than just a money machine, it’s about legacy and pride and about honoring the patient and loyal hardcore simmer crowd that always supported Fsx, it’s also about the love for aviation and that has to be respected, and let’s not forget the huge commitment by microsoft to organise so many events, transparent communication with the devs, looking back on the history of aviation, literally hiring real life pilots to create a twitch series for in depth simulator flight lessons…those guys are hungry! They want the crown back

Yes it is indeed.

FS2020 has created quite a stir, a good catalogue of third party add-ons has evolved and the latest expansion announcement looks pretty interesting.
On broader notes there are some good sim titles out there and what can only be described as a ā€œgolden ageā€ for peripherals has come to pass with boutique manufacturers upscaling their businesses and high quality sim kit from the likes of Virpil, VKB, WinWing and Honeycomb being more available than ever.
Couple these developments with the accessibility to affordable 3dprinting and control boards and the growth of the self build community (with some fine examples like Authentikit and others even showing up in these forums) and I think it’s safe to say that the tired old offerings from the two mainstream manufacturers no longer the only game in town.

If there were prizes to give surely the VKB Gladiator NXT and the work of Authentikit would romp home with gold.

You did and I saw them too! These are probably the things I was happiest to see in the trailer.

I have been checking every day since December too…glad I am not the only one.

I wonder if Asobo are ready to deal with complaining Xbox customers, they’re a different beast and more aggressive!

On the plus side for release it will hopefully allow more development on VR and DX12
