It’s just not there. Check out salt lake, its (the masking) terrible
What I meant was that one can conclude that if there are two codestreams (which is still only an assumption based on the fact that we obviously now got different levels for PC and XBox) there seems no necessity to impose disadvsntages on either platform just because some specific code is required on the other.
PS: Don’t know if I could express clear enough what I mean…
Not all cities have photogrammetry. But if the city has photogrammetry, you should see the difference clearly. Which PG cities have been added in WUX is in the patch notes.
I accidentally flew Germany without the WU and now I’m redoing it. I certainly notice a difference!
I’m amazed at how small Wester Europe is or Europe in general minus Russia. I’ve flown more of Western Europe that I have the US. It’s amazing for GA flying, never more than 150 NM between interesting locations.
No necessity, but sometimes things happen by accident. Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity is another way of saying it.
I think SU5 was really a rush job to get MSFS to work on a console at an acceptable performance. It all but broke the PC version, and these changes have slowly been unpicked since, but many are left to be reverted. From memory it was the biggest regression fest we have suffered.
Here are some other issues caused by SU5 that are still waiting for a fix:
- Intermittent loss of sound and text from ATC and other aircraft on one radio when using both radios or when using the AI copilot. Sound and text from ATC can be restored by using the other radio tuned to that frequency. Must restart the sim to restore both radios.
- World Map and ATC in flight often will assign the incorrect end of a runway for takeoff or landing so the aircraft will have a tailwind instead of a headwind
- The tower now ignores manually set wind direction when assigning the landing runway. Can no longer set a gate or ramp as arrival and specify the landing runway by setting wind direction.
- At an uncontrolled airport after flying in from another airport, SU5 eliminated the ATC Announce Clear Of Runway and other ATC options after landing and taxiing past a hold short line. All ATC options are shown after landing at an uncontrolled airport only when taking off from that same uncontrolled airport.
Thanks, without seeing a before and after view it’s hard to tell. So with PG off those select areas that are PG enhanced will look like the rest of the world?
How about the limitations imposed on PC’s DRAM usage, it’s been capped since SU5. Removing said cap could bring back some performance to those running more memory (32GB, 64GB etc)
If the area has no PG, then PG-Off looks the same there as PG-On. These areas have PG.
But the list is already outdated, because with each WU more cities have been added. You have to look into the patch notes of the respective updates. World Update 6 , World Update 7 , World Update 8 , World Update 9 , World Update X etc … PG can usually be recognized by the fact that the scenery as a whole looks much darker (and in some cases also like ruins).
Here you can see the difference between PG on/off:

Thanks AlexE75 for all that great info!

Yes I noticed this immediately and in many cases preferred the cleaner look of PG-Off along with less anomalies in the land tiles. However I noticed that with PG-On you see a more accurate accounting for the buildings and man made objects.
WUX seems to worsen some (all?) water bodies in the USA.
Discovered a lot of holes along the Colorado river and Lake Powel yesterday during our trip along the Colorado river. Cracks in the water are more than before and the same cracks in the terrain are also gotten more.
You can have a look at it here:
As we are a german group we chatter mainly on german.
But you get a good idea what went wrong this time.
btw. Thanks a lot for nothing

Wow! The servers must have quietened down. Just done a low level over New York and the buildings were magnificent. Not a glitch anywhere, each building was stunning. I just they would do something about the oversize trees and vegetation. It ruins the whole feel for me.
I yesterday flew from one uncontrolled airport to another and I had all ATC options.
Might be that the difference is me flying on Xbox?
Yes, I have 48gb and I can’t recall the sim ever using more than 25% of it and that’s with a few external addons too (Pilot2Atc etc).
I would have thought that, at the very least, I would get a smoother sim experience if it took more advantage of the available RAM.
I have heard that they make the trees oversized on purpose to cover large areas without affecting sim performance too much. The thought is that more smaller trees will be more detrimental to fps.
No idea if this is true to be honest. Might be a load of tosh.
It’s true. To get the same effect, smaller trees would mean needing more of them, which will affect performance. Large, oversized trees are a compromise.
There could be some intelligence to this, though. The real issue is large forests, and woods wouldn’t look right if the trees were smaller. You don’t tend to notice they are too big in forests, but when they are compared to buildings.
So what could be done is have them be the regular size when out in the countryside, woods, forests, jungles etc. but in cities, and towns, have them rendered at a more realistic scale, where it may not matter if the coverage is lower, and it’s more obvious when seen alongside nearby buildings.
The odd isolated tree won’t seem so out of place as a sparse wooded area that was meant to be a dense forest.
Why? Europe has a bigger land mass than the USA, its not that small.
Thanks for the reply.
I wasn’t too sure about it’s validity
Is anybody getting areas where the grass is hovering above the ground. I came across this in multiple areas in New York- central park… and at the Texas Longhorns stadium in Austin. Wondering if I should reinstall the update.
No, this happens a lot, no need for a reinstall.
