DLSS 4.5 - Reduced ghosting & 6x Frame Generation?

I didn’t see a thread for this which was announced at CES 2026 today.

The article indicates its available now via the App, and with drivers on the 13th of January.

Anybody tried it? I don’t have access to my PC at the moment… very interested if this helps with ghosting on glass cockpit displays as reduced ghosting is one of the improvements being promoted….

Before the 13th January, it requires the last driver + an update (currently in Beta) for nvidia app 11.0.6:374 NVIDIA App Update Adds DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution & New GeForce Game Ready Driver | GeForce News | NVIDIA

Well, eagerly awaiting somebody who has the latest driver and is willing to give it a go!

10-15% performance hit when using latest DLSS 4.5

Preset M is the “Latest” option and the most prefered. Curious to see how it will handle on my 5090.

Preset J: Similar to preset K. Preset J might exhibit slightly less ghosting at the cost of extra flickering. Preset K is generally recommended over preset J

Preset K: Default preset for DLAA/Balanced/Quality modes. Less expensive performance wise compared to Preset L.

Preset L: Default preset for UltraPerformance mode. Delivers a sharper, more stable image with less ghosting than Preset J, K but are more expensive performance wise. Preset L is peak performant on RTX 40 series GPUs and above.

Preset M: Default preset for Performance mode. Delivers similar image quality improvements as Preset L but closer in speed to Presets J, K. Preset M is peak performant on RTX 40 series GPUs and above.

so sad they are so excited for that new inovations and year after year eating the last VRAM we have left ,

I’m doing some tests: with the M preset (latest) the ghosting has disappeared, objects and texts on the moving display appear like in TAA but it eats up 20% of frames compared to the K preset.

Benchmark found on Reddit:

Testing MSFS 2024, RTX 4090, Latest Preset 3840x2160 TAA with DLSS on and off. Will report back. Base line is 56 fps without any DLSS or FG

Tested on the ground at IniBuilds KJFK, TLOD 200, OLOD 200, Fenix A321, 591.74, 55" LG QNED 4k TV

Baseline TAA with no DLSS or FG = 47 fps

DLSS Quality with no FG = 63 FPS

DLSS Balanced with no FG = 63 fps

DLSS Performance with no FG = 63 fps

DLSS Ultra Performance with no FG = 70 fps

DLSS DLAA with no FG = 43 fps

DLSS Quality with FG = 105 fps

DLSS Balanced with FG = 107 fps

DLSS Performance with FG = 115 fps

DLSS Ultra Performance with FG = 120 fps

In terms of quality of the screens:

DLSS standalone no FG = Very close to 1:1 screens with TAA

DLSS with FG = Slight Ghosting of rapidly changing numbers on screens, better then before, Quality and Balance presets are usable and still good.

Nothing seems to beat TAA on my configuration.

Just made a short 40 min flight in C172. Updated Nvidia App 11.0.6:374, lastest Nvidia driver 591.74.

  • DLSS Override models Presets : Latest
  • Anti-Aliasing : TAA after testing DLSS Super Resolution but G1000 was way more blurry than with TAA
  • Frame Generation : DLSS x 2 (3 or 4 only avail in MSFS)

Didn’t see much differences in performance, but it requires more tests and experience.

tested in VR with 4070 , the performance hit its MASSIVE , think again if the quality trade off worth it , the image is more clear , but the performance hit its too big , unplayeable

For me it’s quite the opposite in VR. RTX 4060ti 16GB, Quest 3, VD. Latest BIOS & Chipset drivers. Re-Bar on (will test later with it off)

Just did a quick test at KLAS, FS Traffic running, image quality is better, still running it on pre-set K but VRAM usage has gone up a bit. Will try NYC later on.

But overall it seems much smoother then before and my GPU seems to be running slightly cooler too

you have to specify that you used the older preset k , the whole 4.5 point is the new transformer models L and M which use more gpu computing power for the image and DLSS Quality , try this and come back , im very curious . i used preset M for the test.

Will do :+1:

Unfortunately I can’t get pre-set L or M on my 4060ti, a quick google search says…

:magnifying_glass_tilted_left: Why Preset M Isn’t Available on the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB

:brain: 1. Preset M is part of the new DLSS 4 Transformer Model

DLSS 4 introduces a new “Transformer Model Upgrade” and new presets (including Preset M) designed for the latest generation of GPUs. These upgrades are not universally enabled across all RTX cards — NVIDIA restricts certain features to newer architectures.

But at least for me, I’m happy with the update for now lol

you need to update to the latest nvidia app ,

That’s my app version, I’m pretty sure when I installed the driver it updated the Nvidia app too.

Just checked online, yes it’s the latest version.

you need to check opt for beta to acces …. and you will see the 11.06 update .

Right, I’ll give that a go and report back soon :+1:

Thanks for that! It worked, I’ll test it out now and report back.

Right, I’m rather surprised! I did the exact same flight, same everything, visually it’s as good as pre-set K with less shimmering especially on the glass buildings on the Vegas strip (I do have Glideslope Pro’s KLAS installed).

VRAM usage is less. Ever such the odd slight stutter when turning my head quickly to the side but doesn’t kill the immersion. I probably should turn off FS Traffic as it is a resource hogger, but I wanted to try it with everything I normally run.

I’ll try it on pre-set L later on when I have time in Las Vegas, then I’ll try NYC (with Samscene3D’s NYC Times) as that will be a real test, but for now pre-set M is a keeper!
