DLSS 4.5 - Reduced ghosting & 6x Frame Generation?

i513600k 64GB RTX4080S Quest3 VR only here. With high VR graphics settings preset and DLSS 4.5 in Performance mode - Preset M I can no longer keep a stable 45 FPS. So I had to lower the headset frequency to 72Hz to be able to run a steady 36 FPS. OK with GA planes and the PMDG 737, not enough with the Fenix though.

DLSS 4.5 quality mode, preset K is perfect, optimal perfermancr and blurry almost gone, If you prefer blurry total disappeared use preset M but you will have a lower performance

9800x3d & 5080 here, VR with a bsb2e. Definitely impressed with the reduction of ghosting with preset M.

I’d also go so far as to say the visuals of Performance M, are on par with Quality K. I’ve settled on Balanced M for now as it’s best visuals / performance for me.

Definitely notice an uptick in VRAM. At JFK using my normal settings on balanced M, I’m seeing right around 15gb vram use. On DLSS 4 preset K, I was seeing only around 13.5.

I also have a 5080 and am very happy, but after reading some of the NVIDIA lore I fine tuned with M down to Performance Mode. It did not result in any noticeable visual degradation but maybe picked up 1-2 FPS and a little VRAM in high use situations in VR. I can run anything in 2D and still have plenty of head room.

For reference I have a 7950x.

I used Preset M with my RTX3080Ti with DLSS balanced mode. Best frame rates I’ve ever seen since I started playing MSFS 2020. The visuals are almost as good as TAA, and now the glass cockpits don’t have blurry screens.

Do we still need to use the NVidia app beta version for preset M, or is it included in the stable app already?

I recall the stable was supposed to come out the 13th but do not quote me on that… was today.

Yes, if you use the Nvidia App, but you can go around it by using DLSS Swapper.

The ghosting from the trailing edge of the aircraft has decreased, but black ghosts still appear, trailing behind the aircraft.

I think the current version (which was in beta) was released as final without changes:

NVIDIA App v11.0.6.379 Released (non beta)

310.5.2 came with the updated NVIDIA app. Will continue with Performance/preset M. Cheers!

Changed Nvidia App setting to ‘Recommended’ instead of Latest. In the sim on DLSS, with Frame Gen on DLSS, tried both performance and ultra performance . Noticed the preset change from M to L on screen. Ultra performance did give me a little faster frame time and a couple FPS, on L. However Performance and preset M gave a little sharper image for small text like Barometer setting. I’m leaving it on M, Performance for 60 FPS and clarity. My monitor is 60 refresh rate. RTX 4070S, i7-9700K, 38GB Ram. Definitely CPU limited for now.

Has anyone gone ahead and loaded it. Now that I have the Beta working perfectly all I need is a bunch of random setting changes. Seems like there are a few refinements?

Same results here with L…32gb ram…78003d…4070s…no FG…4k 60htz…I’m loving the overall performance…this one works for me atm…it’s well balanced for my setup…using M /performance with moderate sim settings here as well..

When I opened Nvidia App it updated the app. Works fine. No issues at all.

Your CPU makes a huge difference. I can’t get 60FPS without Frame Gen on.

Seems to be something a touch confusing going on. I hate to update and find out all my settings are changed.

Well, there is no choice involved. Upgraded and went automatically to their “Recommended” settings, which looks like a change from M to L. I changed back and looks like no damage done.

And an updated FAQ from NVIDIA, clarifying Presets:

DLSS Mode Recommended DLSS Version
DLAA Preset K 4.0
Quality Preset K 4.0
Balanced Preset K 4.0
Performance Preset M 4.5
Ultra Performance Preset L 4.5

At this point you need a GPU lawyer to decrypt what they are saying:

“Based on your feedback in the NVIDIA app beta, we made updates to DLSS Override in the production release.

Under “DLSS Override - Model Preset” in the Graphics tab, we’ve replaced “Latest” with “Recommended,” which sets Preset M to DLSS Super Resolution Performance mode, Preset L to DLSS Super Resolution Ultra Performance mode, and Preset K to the remaining DLSS Super Resolution modes.

This update better aligns with the two new DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution models: Model M is optimized for DLSS Super Resolution Performance mode, and Model L is optimized for 4K DLSS Super Resolution Ultra Performance mode. While both models are supported for both DLSS Super Resolution Quality and Balanced modes, and DLAA, users will see the best quality vs. performance benefits in Performance and Ultra Performance modes.

To verify that the intended model is enabled, turn on the NVIDIA app overlay statistics view via Alt+Z > Statistics > Statistics View > DLSS.”

This is somewhat confusing to me since it seems to say that only Model L is 4K whereas when I was using M my reading of the fine print was that it was upscaled to 4K. The “Super Resolution Performance: is fast because it is upscaling not native 4K? This is what I had seemed to see on the overlay where they give the pixel counts involved.
