DLSS 4.5 - Reduced ghosting & 6x Frame Generation?

preset M is designed to be paired with DLSS performance

So which one was designed to use with Quality?

Dlss performance in regedit ( bottom left ) or in the msfs2020 dlss performance general options?

I find DLSS 4.5 preset M even on Quality doesn’t provide pleasing results on my 4K monitor. There is still noticeable ghosting. I had to settle with TAA 100% render scale+ FG. I’m using a 4080 Super 5800x3D ultra to high settings.

It is not strictly accurate to say that M is a better performer than L.

L is for Ultra Performance mode, M is for Performance mode. these are the only two dlss 4.5 modes, currently. By the nature of UP and P modes, there is more upscaling for UP than P. Therefore, P is likely to be a better image on screen than UP.

However, you are likely to get better performance, fps, from UP mode.

The one caveat from all this is that you get the best results from 4.5 if you have a RTX40 or RTX50 series card. If you have a RTX20 or RTX30 series card then you may find that you do not get as much of a performance boost as the newer cards.

Having a good time with DLSS performance preset M my last couple of flights in PMDG 737-800.

Stutter free and performance overall very good.

7800x3d & 4070ti super.

For Quality or Balanced K is the recommended preset. But it is DLSS 4.0. I’m using Quality and K on MSFS 2020 with good results, visually and performance wise.

DLSS Quality definitely looks sharper overall except the blurry numbers on my PFD and there is weird ghosting on winter trees during an overcast when panning. I have to stay with TAA for now.

Nvidia is deceiving us with technologies that don’t work.
Just to sell us the latest generation graphics cards.

I think the technology works fairly ok but it does not work well in MSFS yet. No major issues in other games.

Good point. These days I mainly fly steam gauge GA and helos so those issues don’t affect my visuals. I’m sure in some future release they’ll have a 4.5‘ish preset for Balanced and Quality.

I used to use Nvidia Profile Inspector and DLSS Swapper when updating drivers, dlss etc. I have since installed drivers and Nvidia app after reading that using DLSS swapper may conflict with Nvidia app dlss. Does Nvidia app update to new dlss automatically or should I go back to using Dlss swapper with Nvidia app?

I can tell you that by looking in the C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA\NGX\models folder that no new version of dlss lib was added by either by 591.86 or the new version of the Nvidia App.

Therefore if you have to have the 310.5.3 version lib active you will have to use Dlss Swapper. The question is do you really need 310.5.3? I have not read anything that would give you anything new.

I had surprising results. Can anyone confirm the performance increase? I’ve only read that people are losing performance on M and L.

You will get an FPS increase if you use DLSS 4.5.

What I have found, and most people can’t seem to understand, is that preset L is tuned for Ultra Performance and preset M is tuned for Performance.

If you try setting preset M and setting it to Quality you do not get the benefit you think that you might as preset M is not tuned for it. In a simple test I did, in VR, was to tune my system so that I got 72 fps, my set limit, - with spacewarp - at a location.

I had the system set to Quality and the preset to Recommended and so got K.

I then flew the same aircraft from the same base with preset M hardcoded and kept Quality in game. The result was that my fps went down to 58 fps.

To be brutally honest at this moment in time I do not see why I should deviate away from Performance and therefore the dynamic setting of preset M.

So that recommended preset in nvidia app does change automatically based on what’s selected in game, so if I select quality it should use preset K and vice versa preset m if I select performance?

My experience has been exactly the same. I have a 9800x3d 64GB RAM and an RTX 5080 with Quest 3 headset.

If some one a couple of weeks ago had told me to run on DLSS Performance I’d have said they were crazy to even suggest it. I’m getting by far the best results fps and latency on preset m and Performance mode.

Yes that is the case. This is easy enough to check for yourself. I have seen people post on this forum that the nvidia overlay does not update very quickly when you change it but the Dlss Swapper option or reg entry will show it immediately.

The one exception that I should note is that it only shows the 2D assignment and not the VR one, so I would suggest that you keep both the same.

The other point here is that the nvidia app only selects up to the 310.5.2 libs. If you want to use the 310.5.3 libs you have to use Dlss Swappper to override them.

Update January 14 2026

Based on your feedback in the NVIDIA app beta, we made updates to DLSS Override in the production release.

Under “DLSS Override - Model Preset” in the Graphics tab, we’ve replaced “Latest” with “Recommended,” which sets Preset M to DLSS Super Resolution Performance mode, Preset L to DLSS Super Resolution Ultra Performance mode, and Preset K to the remaining DLSS Super Resolution modes.

This update better aligns with the two new DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution models: Model M is optimized for DLSS Super Resolution Performance mode, and Model L is optimized for 4K DLSS Super Resolution Ultra Performance mode. While both models are supported for both DLSS Super Resolution Quality and Balanced modes, and DLAA, users will see the best quality vs. performance benefits in Performance and Ultra Performance modes.

To verify that the intended model is enabled, turn on the NVIDIA app overlay statistics view via Alt+Z > Statistics > Statistics View > DLSS.

And for further information about DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution, check out our announcement article , and watch our explainer video .”
