DLSS/Driver/GPU/msfs2020

Please add the msfs-2020 or msfs-2024 tag to your post, depending on which sim your post is about.

Hi fellow simmers,

I have a PC with nvidia rtx 4090, with i7 14700k, and I play msfs2020, with nvidia driver 566.36, no nvidia app,

TAA,

dx11

Vsync off, Low Latency On, and most other parameters to Ultra/High.

Using one TV 48” OLED 4K and a second monitor 27” for supportive utilities.

My experience: I really enjoy flying with my setup. I fly the pmdg b737 800 with FS2CREW animated officer, BATC, Cabby, FlyHub, GSX Pro integration, Chaseplane, Tobii eye tracker and i choose only airports with purchased scenery.

Although I do not suffer from heavy stutters or CTDs, usually my FPS ranges between 28 to 38, depending on the scenery and stage of flying.

I know that I am CPU limited.
I have tried changing to DLSS (Not using DLSS Swapper) with or without frame gen on, with or without vsync on,

But never succeed in obtaining higher FPS.

Question:

If i choose again DLSS instead of TAA, since I am on 566.36 driver, which DLSS version to choose from in the Swapper?

Maybe I could download a later driver and have a better success with DLSS? I am afraid of CTDs if I change the 566.36 driver (with dx11).

Any opinions and suggestions please?

Kind regards

Dimitris

The CTD issue when running in DirectX 11 was recently fixed with the SU 16.1 release. So grab the latest GPU drivers 595.79 and install them after using DDU to to a clean up of all previous GPU drivers.

You don’t need to worry about CTDs anymore when loading MSFS 2020 if you’re using DX11 instead of DX12. The issue has already been fixed. There’s confirmation in the thread where I originally reported the bug - it now has the fixed-on-live tag, meaning the fix has been deployed.

Using Framegen you should see a significant increase of the FPS. Please note: the FPS Window in the sim shows only the native frames, not the resulting FPS after Framegen. You have to measure it in a different way.

Please note that the FPS Overlay shows the correct FPS. Here’s an example: I set the FPS cap to a maximum of 60 and enabled frame generation x4

which should result in 240FPS (60x4=240) and that’s exactly what the FPS Overlay shows.

It’s also important to enable the FPS Overlay without using Developer Mode, because with Developer Mode enabled it may show incorrect values. I explained how to enable the FPS Overlay while bypassing Devmode in the topic linked below.
How to Enable FPS Overlay Without Developer Mode

In 2024 yes, but not in 2020.

Should I download also the nvidia app?

I guess not since you suggest the DDU installer, correct?

Thank you all for taking the time to explain and give me advices and suggestions.

Some more questions if I may,

  1. Since i will try frame gen with TAA
  2. then frame gen with DLSS (to compare)

Which DLSS Version should I try with DLSS Swapper?

What about VSYNC?

What about frame limit?

Where to choose to alter these parameters? In nvidia panel or in the game?

In nvidia panel the set up should be the same between global settings and program settings?

The set up of program settings should be the same with in game settings?

I do not know how to start…

Thank you in advance

You’re right - I forgot that we’re in the MSFS 2020 topic.

Nothing wrong with the NVIDIA app now. You can choose either install or not.
