DLSS Frame Generation remains greyed out despite that bug being fixed?

Title explains it.

Hardware:
-i9 14900k
-ASRock Z690 Extreme
-64GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM
-RTX 5070

Screens:
-DP → HMDI 1920x1080@60Hz
-DP → HMDI 1920x1080@100Hz (Physical Simulator setup screen)
-DP → DP 1920x1080@144Hz (Main workscreen)

Steps taken:
-HAGS is ON
-Resizable Bar is ON
-usercfg.opt DLSSG manually set to 1
-Copied settings 1:1 from people having it running
-Disabled autotuning of the NVIDIA APP from the getgo
-Tried NVIDIA APP autotuning after everything else failed (It stated it set framegeneration ON, it didnt)
-DDU used for driver, latest driver installed
-Started the game a multitude of times with only one setting changed at a time, on all 3 displays I have
-Disabled all overlays (NVIDIA APP, Steam, Discord) i could think of (it ran with steamoverlay enabled previously)

I had framegeneration confirmed running about a week ago before I switched my GPU from my new 5070 back to my old 3060 for unrelated performance issue tests (But also tested framerates in MSFS). I swapped the new GPU back in now with a clean driver install using DDU.
Now after all this I cannot get framegeneration on anymore despite it having been on successfully before (NOT set through usercfg → DLSSG 1, set through the ingame menu).
The last time it ran it was a bit troublesome to get it running as it didnt intially want to be turned on but I did manage to get it on, however I cant recall how i did it as it worked rather quickly and seemed like a quick fix.

All other forum threads related to this I have already searched through and tried everything, nothing worked. What am I missing?

I had a similar issue where the frame generation setting was greyed out. You could use the nVidia App to optimize settings for MSFS 2024 which will update your graphics settings, then re-run MSFS 2024 and change your settings manually.

As previously stated: “-Tried NVIDIA APP autotuning after everything else failed (It stated it set framegeneration ON, it didnt)”. I unfortunately already tried that. It did not work

When you say “autotuning” I think of System > Performance > Automatic Tuning which is not what I mean here. I am referring to Graphics > Program Settings > Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 > Optimize to optimize the game settings.

Yeah sorry, thats the settings I meant. I tried that, it didnt work. It stated it set it to on but in the flight sim it was still off and not running.

Maybe you could try backing up the UserOpt.cfg file, then delete it and let MSFS re-create it. Maybe that would work.

Just attempted that. After that and switching back to DX12 it still remains greyed out

To be honest I haven’t used msfs2020 for a long time, but the last time I did and this happened to me, I recall having to do a complete reinstall of the sim to get Nvidia attributes to work properly, it seems there may be some missing DLLs in your installation relating to Nvidia.

Not likely what you want to hear, but when troubles like this start, it is usually best to start afresh. Unfortunately it’s not as easy with 2020 as it is with 2024 as the former takes sooooo long to install.

Is there a reason why you haven’t migrated to 2024?

try turning HAGS off

Ah, i dont have that much of a problem letting it reinstall to try once or twice. Can let that happen while im not on PC.
Multiple reasons why im not yet on MSFS2024, but it is planned. Price, still many negative reviews about bugs, VR performance said to be worse, PMDG737 not transferable…
I am currently reinstalling the flight sim and will see if that helps and report back.

I doubt that will do anything as HAGS is said to be needed? I believe i have tried that already but if the reinstallation will not help me i will attempt that.

I have HAGs turned off…

Ok, I am back after the reinstallation with good news. Framegeneration is now back available to be chosen, BUT it came at a cost:

After reinstallation my game straightout crashed at loading at around 50-70% at all times. Searching for solutions it was said that the NVIDIA App (Not the driver, the App ) causes MSFS to crash.
Now i have reason to believe that it could have rather been the NVIDIA App holding that setting hostage instead of the game itself. The App is kind of known to to unfunny stuff like that.

My steps to solution: Uninstalled MSFS → Reinstalled MSFS → Uninstalled NVIDIA App after crashes → Started MSFS and turned on DX12 → Restart (SOLUTION)

Additionally i am trying again now if a reinstallation of the NVIDIA App breaks it again. I’ll disable Frame Generation again and see if i can turn it back on after a game restart. As I am also experiencing additional PC problems what goes to random high GPU ussage I will test a little bit more and report back whether I have reason to believe that it was the NVIDIA App breaking Frame Generation and not the reinstall fixing it.

Well at least you’ve made some progress to a solution, keep us posted.
