DLSS Main Thread - Latest Version 310.6.0, Feedback and Tips - discussion

I noticed that there isn’t a main discussion thread about DLSS on this forum. Every time a new DLSS version is released, someone starts a new thread, and after a while, these threads become outdated and all the valuable tips and feedback get scattered across many different threads. That’s why I decided to create this main thread, so we have one central place to track and discuss DLSS updates

Please also use this thread to post information whenever a new DLSS version is released. I will mark such posts as a solution to direct readers from the first post to the latest DLSS version. I will also edit the thread so that the DLSS version appears in the thread title. When adding information about a new DLSS version, please tag me @TenPatrol so I can quickly read the update and reflect it in the main post.

  • Please keep all posts relevant to DLSS, DLSS updates and performance in MSFS.
  • Share your experiences whenever a new DLSS version is released.
  • Include details such as game settings, GPU model, DLSS version, and any performance metrics if possible.

DLSS 310.6.0 available.
Install the update by ticking the “beta and experimental features” box in Settings > About, inside the NVIDIA app. But please note, GeForce Game Ready Driver 595.79 WHQL, or newer, is required to use all features.

Are you using it with your 5090?

Are there any release notes or anything for this new version? I heard it brings FG improvements, wonder if anything else has been improved?

DLSS Super Resolution has been updated as well, glass cockpit ghosting is virtually gone now. I use DLSS Quality preset M. It’s fantastic.

Can you share your settings please.

And GPU? I have a 4090. Any hopes for ghosting removal for me? (I’ll test it tomorrow btw… just curious how those with 4000 series cards are making out with the new version)

I don’t understand much of this, so hopefully I am asking the right question. I have a 3070. I have updated via the app, as far as I know successfully - not sure how to check if its running the latest. I have a 3840x2160 monitor 144Hz. I usually keep it at Quality on DLSS, so that looks like its from 1440 and upscaling. With the letter version K. Can I change the letter version or anything else to get the best picture possible? I saw Simpilot had Quality and M. Thanks

Everyone’s setup is different and tuned to the specific PC we running, so it’s not really worth comparing your settings to someone else’s. The best approach is to adjust things until you’re personally happy with the image quality and performance.

As for the K, L, M model - the easiest way to change them is through the NVIDIA app settings, specifically in the profile for MSFS under Driver Settings.

If you want to use the M model instead of K for DLSS Quality, go to DLSS Override > Model Preset > Custom tab > Super Resolution and select the model you prefer.

Click Apply.

As you can see in the screenshot above, I’ve selected the M model, while in MSFS 2024 I have DLSS set to Quality. By default, that would use the K model, but the NVIDIA app has overridden it with the model I chose - this is what’s called DLSS Override.

If you want the DLSS Indicator to appear like in my screenshot, you can enable it in two ways: either by adding a registry entry manually, or by changing the setting in DLSS Swapper, which does exactly the same thing - it adds the entry to the system registry.

How to Enable the DLSS Indicator to Show DLSS Version and Model

If you want to see the DLSS version and “render preset” during gameplay, you’ll need to make changes in the system registry.

You need to manually add an entry to the system registry. Copy the code below

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NGXCore]
"ShowDlssIndicator"=dword:00000400

paste it into Notepad and save the file as DLSS_Indicator.reg (not as a text file, this is very important).

Click File > Save as > save as type > all files > file name > DLSS_Indicator.reg > save

image

Then run the file and agree to make changes to the system registry.

Click ok and restart PC.

If you no longer want the DLSS version to be displayed, you can edit the registry.

Open registry editor (regedit)
Navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NGXCore

Double click ShowDlssIndicator
under “Value data” set the value to 0

Click ok and restart PC.

Fly safe.

Or

Restart PC.

EDIT

It’s not perfect - below DLSS Quality model M, you can still notice ghosting on the altitude digits.

DLSS Quality model M

There’s no problem with the digits if you choose TAA instead of DLSS.

DLSS 310.6 out today. How is your performance and visual quality with this new version ?

I find Quality with M to be the best image quality for me, and it really improves the ghosting a ton. It’s virtually non-existent, and very crisp visuals.

That’s an almost 12,000-FPM descent rate, I would be much more worried about the two big numbers in that scenario than the two small ones (lest one become a lawn dart). At vertical speeds that you would see in normal operations, the 20-foot increment numbers are perfectly readable.

Looks like 310.6 is available in the DLSS swapper… just got the latest NVIDIA driver (DDU’ed the old one) and used the swapper to enable 310.6 for MSFS… Will run a quick test after these pesky work calls.

Question for the gurus - I have been using preset K with the previous versions with descent results. Should mention that I’m using VR exclusively (quest 2). Should I move to preset M with this new version to get rid of as much ghosting as possible? I’m honestly happy with how K has been working out, but there is a bit of smearing on speed/alt tapes in VR.

I’d certainly give M a try and see how you like it. Which DLSS setting are you using? I use Quality and M in both flat panel and VR, and for me it was a definite imrpovement over K.

Was using quality with K. System is i914900k and 4090 64GB RAM. Quest 2.

I’ll give it a shot with Quality and M in VR and see how performance is impacted and report back. Should have a quick minute to test this morning if work would leave me alone

Thanks, that sounds promising. Does that mean less aircraft ghosting too, especially at night?

I was descending like that on purpose - I did it to show that DLSS is still not perfect.

It’s better than it used to be with DLSS 4, but still not perfect - almost perfect, but “almost” makes a big difference.

You should really test it yourself, because everyone’s setup is different. One “guru” might be running an RTX 4090, another a 5070, someone else a 4080, and another person VR like you. Those differences matter a lot.

Because of that, one person will say DLSS Quality preset M is ideal and almost perfect, while someone else will still notice ghosting or other issues. The only reliable way is to try it on your own setup and see what actually works best for you.

100% agree…. I get impatient when I can’t jump right in and test myself  Ok… break from work. So far was able to fire up in 2D with Quality / K and thinks work / look like they did before. I’ll try M now in VR

By the way, want to thank you for posting such helpful information over the past year+ regarding DLSS and such. Very helpful and thanks for helping out the community!!

Sure, I understand that, my point is that whether the 20s are clear when you’re losing 1,000 feet of altitude every 5 seconds is irrelevant. The 20, 40 or 60 isn’t telling you anything important. What’s important is that ghosting is virtually non-existent during normal flight operations. When minimums are 260 and you’re descending at 800 fpm, the numbers are crystal clear. I did a climb in the MAX at 4,500 fpm (well in excess of a normal departure climb) and the 20’s numbers were perfectly readable.

RTX3060 user here, 1080p. I know im not getting the full benefits really, but since the update i’ve been tinkering with L and M again (shame we can’t swap on the fly while the sim is running…). DLSS looks amazing on everything but the screens for my setup. Though with L/M the ghosting is less but i have to leave it on DLAA. Minor perf drop but i intend to run a test flight with it soon.

I guess those that benefit the most are if you’re running 1440p or higher.
