Hello, first time in any Q&A, have been looking around to find how to ask a question.I have no idea if I am in the right place…
I do not intent to use sdk,
In msfs general options, I see “sdk update available”.
I guess I can ignore or disregard.
Would I need an up to date Sdk to fly around. ??
Thank you
No you don’t. I have never updated it since I started using MSFS2020.
You‘re in developer mode. It‘s a mode for… well… developers. It‘s not meant to fly in it, it‘s meant to develop something… obvious I know.
Thank you,
Went to developer to activate FPS display ( hate it) and to find the location of my community folder. Obviously I will leave developer mode to the real guy’s…
Thank you, reassuring.
Hello, I can confirm that you absolutely do not - never ever - need to update (or install in the first place) the MSFS SDK. Not even if you fly in „developer mode“ in MSFS (e.g. in order to display the FPS etc.).
SDK stands for Software Development Kit and as the name implies is exclusively meant to be used by developers to build third-party products such as scenery, aircraft or standalone applications which communicate via the SimConnect API with MSFS.
So unless you want to e.g. design and build your own aircraft or special instrument (addon) you do not need to install (or update) the SDK.
Something related, but not necessarily specific to the SDKs.
I have been chasing a rhythmic hitch in NeoFly ever since I started using it. It happens every 7-10 seconds, and takes all CPU functions in the dev mode counter to black for a split second, with a pause accompanying each dip.
NeoFly on, hitching. NeoFly off, no hitching.
So it’s obviously related to some sim-to-addon polling to keep everything synced up, right?
I have done several uninstalls and reinstalls of MSFS and all peripheral drivers and addons over the past year, but NeoFly still always ended up with the hiccups.
I bought a 2nd 970 Evo Plus (NVME) to throw my games library on, to see if no longer competing with the OS made the mainthread smoother at higher settings, and reduced panning stutters. Spoiler alert: so far, the results are looking really, really good, but I am still testing scenarios and settings to see what the limits might be.
Since I was going to do a full uninstall from my OS drive and put everything fresh on my new dedicated games drive, I decided to go scorched earth with it.
I did a search of my PC for every instance of “simconnect” I could find, and deleted all of them. There were over 120 files, folders, etc. with simconnect in the title. Obviously, this action broke everything, but since I was already planning a full reinstall, I didn’t care.
What I did care about, however, is how many inactive simconnect files were left behind in my system. I can’t help but think they were left behind after installing and deleting certain third-party features over time.
With my latest install, I made sure not to install the SDK, and only the addons I currently use. The number of simconnect entries is a fraction of what they were. And the hitching is GONE.
Just something to think about when 3rd party addons give you fits. There may be old, unused simconnect entries causing issues, maybe even polling all at the same time for no reason. I’m sure there is a better, more technical explanation for my results, but getting rid of all the old entries made everything good again with NeoFly enabled.
