Do you currently use Rolling Cache in 2024 - if yes, at which size? [2026-02-17]

300GB

i9-14900KF / RTX 4090 / 64GB DDR5 RAM @ 6000 / NVMe M.2 SSD / 1Gbps connection

I have always deleted my MSFS2024 rolling cache every time I do a reinstall or install a new beta. And the sim has always just immediately recreated a new (standard) 16GB rolling cache on the next start. Not sure if I am missing something?

Yeah this is what I thought too. Maybe PM the guy who said that?

But I think I also read another method somewhere. Just now I asked Gemini and it said the following, I think I’ve read this method on the forums too before:

The “Ghost Directory” Trick

This method involves pointing the simulator to a specific location and then removing that location while the sim is closed, tricking the internal configuration.

  1. Create a temporary folder: Create a new, empty folder anywhere on your drive (e.g., C:\MSFS_Temp_Cache).
  2. Point the Sim to it:
  • Open MSFS 2024 and go to Options > General > Data (or Online depending on your build).
  • Find the Rolling Cache Path and change it to the new folder you just created.

.

  1. Apply and Exit: Save your settings and close Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 completely.
  2. Delete the folder: Go back to Windows Explorer and delete the temporary folder you created in step 1.
  3. Restart the Sim: When you launch the simulator again, it will look for the path, find it missing, and often default the rolling cache size to 0.0 GB.
