I am left-handed and it is also convenient for me to control with my left hand. But the joysticks are designed almost for the right hand. I also control the mouse with my right hand.
I’m using a right handed VBK NXT because I mainly fly DCS. I changed my old T16000 grip to be left handed for more “realism” while enjoying GA, but I’m ashamed to admin I haven’t even tested it yet
Wow, I’ve not had that level of commitment to the bindings system. But 2024 probably helps you out some. You do all that in VR?
I’ve only ever flown C172 as a student, but I find the stick vs. the real yoke for whatever reason to not be a big deal. I’ve just not found a yoke yet that has good mechanical dampening.
The two keys are modularity - everything can be swapped in less than a minute (some is just permanently there), and management - I let SPAD.next do that.
I guess I’m used to it as I have no issues with it. I use the mouse to look around and flick switches etc. There are buttons on my throttle quadrant and yoke that I use to change the more “mechanical” parts of the aircraft (landing gear, trim, flaps for example). And of course the yoke to turn the aircraft and ascend/descend.
That’s a CH Flightsim Yoke that’s so old it was made in the USA. Love it, but I can feel it’s starting to wear, so I did the Virpil Yoke kickstarter and will hopefully see that by summer.
I know pedals are not necessary due to assists or other hardware that can take their place, but I will tell you, there’s a lot of satisfaction in correctly performing slips to landing, which I found much easier (and true to reality) with pedals. May not apply to your preferred style of flying and like I said, you may have a workaround that works for you.
