Does Anyone *Actually* Know How Marketplace Content is/will be Updated in 2024?

Given that content, when enabled, is “Streamed”, how is it meant to be updated?

In 2020 you purchased something from the Marketplace and it was installed locally. We had to wait for an update for the product to be released in the Marketplace, and then choose to manually update that product.

If product in 2024 is Streamed, one would think as soon as an update is available it can and will be available instantly and will require no action of the user other than, what, a restart of the sim, maybe?

If that is the case, I know there are updates being generated and released for 3rd party Marketplace content that are available via other vendors. I understand there are updates to Base/Deluxe/Premium aircraft that have been submitted.

I know the purchase of new content is on hold until the Marketplace opens some time next year. Why must that be a requisite for providing us access to aircraft updates (the only 3rd party content, currently, allowed to be utilized)? Further, why must that be a requisite for providing access to updated Base/Deluxe/Premium aircraft?

Regardless, in that other timeline where 2024 had a solid, healthy launch and our other selves are enjoying a relatively bug-free experience how are the updates to Marketplace content served?

This one of… well, a ton of questions… that Asobo really should answer ASAP. I think the fact that there are no answers or even any information about the marketplace, downloads, installations, anything… it’s fueling the uncertainty among us. Considering the marketplace is a huge, core function, it’s unacceptable to me that there’s no information about implementation.

I think they should’ve provided information when they delayed the release of the marketplace a few weeks ago. That would’ve assuaged fears around here.

I feel you, and I can imagine they are trying to figure out the best way forward. As someone who spent their entire life pushing buttons, I can tell you I only want one more button, the Homer Simpson button, and it better work. I wish I had that button now, and I bet they do too.

It is bizarre this period in time. Are we still in the “Information Age”?

With all these ways to communicate — in person, physical mail, smoke signals, visual/audible Morse code, signal corps, email, text, telephone, audio, print, video, etc., I often find communications, now, harder than it was before much of this existed so readily.

Microsoft has the resources to assemble even the most cursory of documentation as to how this will work, but they chose to just leave us in the dark.

I have flat out called out for an official explanation for a few basic aspects of this sim, so that I can refer people to them when they continue to spread misinformation throughout the forum.

Why does that fall on me — some dude in California completely unaffiliated with this product and the companies involved — to put the effort into making that happen?

The dysfunction here is so rife, it is difficult to fully grasp.

I don’t know, but given the concept of “we’re streaming everything” shouldn’t that best way have been figured out… I don’t know… like… before they locked on said concept?

That is very admirable, truly. I know that I’m not capable of putting as much effort into community support as you. I’d burn out so fast I’d probably quit the hobby altogether.

Respectfully, it’s not your job. It makes me sad reading post after post of yours and seeing little response. That’s their job, and they’re doing a terrible job of it. To the point where I’m beginning to suspect that maybe FS20 was so good by accident, and not by the skill of Asobo as a studio.

I don’t know anymore. My BIL is visiting and can’t afford the hobby, so he’s got free rein of my setup while he’s here. I reinstalled FS24 because he loved the idea of the challenge leaderboards. He’s having a lot of fun! When the sim works…

Even he says it needed more time to cook. When someone who isn’t in the hobby can see that, you know the devs dun’ goofed.

I think I’ll go back to FS20 for the foreseeable future. I can’t take the misery anymore. I’ll really miss the Albatross.

Well, the streaming part seems to be working fine. If the Marketplace had launched clean things might look differently. I hope the whole thing doesn’t fall apart. No plan B.

So far it seems streamed content gets patched on the cloud. No need to download a fix.

But I still figure those patches will still be delayed until Thursday Marketplace updates or something, and they would still need to pass MS QC. So I figure there would still be the traditional 2 week delay.

If installed to the SSD, I have to figure we will need a content manager that allows us to download updates to addons.

The new “My Library” replaces the content manager from FS2020

Of course… but it for now lacks a way to download or patch anything, so that would need to work like ye olde Content Manager and allow for downloading addons before downloading patches for addons would need to be a thing for users.

Speaking of which, we need a tag for “My library”. Currently, we only have content-manager

I’d like to amend my posts pertaining to My library with a correct tag.

Have done so, new tag at top of post.

This sentence, more than any other, sums up the overall attitude of MS to the sim in general. Here, have a big, complex aircraft. No, we won’t give you instructions. Some rando on Youtube will have to do it and get it wrong. Here, have a UI that is baffling. Guess how it works, etc.

Just further evidence, like no Marketplace yet, and no beta time for 3rd Party Devs to get their products up to speed for the new sim, that the sim was released to meet the deadline but before it was fully finished.

Obviously, they had to make the deadline; a lot goes into making a game launch that has to go on schedule.

I’m not a dev, so I can’t say how easy it is to use the Marketplace. It’s all about the Marketplace, and it has to be super easy to use or customers will turn away. I got the latest Inibuilds A300 from their store, not the Marketplace yesterday.

Early access for 3rd party devs, there just wasn’t time from what I can see. We’re in early access now. :grinning:

The very fact that you are not a dev makes you eminently qualified to describe how easy or hard it is for you to use. Thanks. --Redeye

Part of the selling point was for me the statement from Asobo that “Your 2020 marketplace items will be compatible with 2024” - now maybe they will be but most certainly arent right now. That keeps me from playing 2024 for now until they are.

I was totally convinced that would be there day one.

And evidence the sim released before it was ready.

To miss the holiday window for Marketplace!?!

At least all but a few planes have been ported over now.

Ah. The info from Asobo is that not all 7,900 addons for FS20 work with FS24.

They all have to be tested, hence the awkward delays.

We just have to be patient with Asobo.

Also 3rd party developers making changes and testing with FS24 may introduce delays.
