Does anyone know when contrails will be added?

I realise it’s on the to do list, but has it been confirmed when they will be introduced?

i don’t think so

The weird thing is I’m sure I’ve seen something that would look just like that, but only once. It was a on a group flight, and I was looking out the window to my left. Another one of the group was above me, descending while rolling to the right, so I could see into their cockpit. There appeared to be lines extending backwards from the wing tips. We were pretty low, maybe only 2000ft, above water, with no clouds anywhere near us.

I’m sure I didn’t imagine that. Perhaps a graphical bug of some kind?

If i remember correctly, Jorg said in one of the Q&A than Contrials will be added at some point. I need to try find the clip and ill post it.

Yeah I know that just dont believe any date has been given for release :slightly_smiling_face:

They’re going to add them when they feel they’ve optimized the engine enough that adding more visual effects isn’t going to cripple performance. Adding smoke, contrails and other particle effects right now would cause performance to tank.

Pretty sure I heard files were found in the game files regarding these contrails. Perhaps it is something they are already working on. I have not confirmed this though, so don’t take my word for it.

Just look inside C:\Users...\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore\fs-base-effects\VisualEffectLibs\Asobo\Base

There are various contrail related files that have been added a few patch updates ago.

They likely already have the code in place to a degree, but enabling them would likely drop fps 50%.

They already said that this stuff will be added at a later date due to performance issues. I would suspect we’ll have to wait for DX12 before we see these effects.

Thanks for posting the path!

They did mention this quite early on that special effects were being worked on. Then in a recent q&a session they said they was opening up SDK for people to work on Visual Effects. So I’m not sure if they want 3rd parties / communities to do this?
