Updating from my last post here…
Last night I played for about 6 hours. Did 2 IFR flights of about 1 hour each as reported in my previous post. Then did a several short VFR sightseeing flights at different locations in several different planes. I did nothing in terms of selecting weather. Just set out flight plans (where applicable), selected a plane, and flew. Weather was working without me having to do anything special.
The first flight, I know the weather was reasonably accurate because it was local and what I was seeing matched what was outside my window - mostly cloud with clear patches with a stiff breeze. The second out of Miami seemed to match what I got as a quick weather report out of Miami. Other flights all had varying weather (no clear skies, 225/3, 29.92). Didn’t bother checking them for real-world accuracy. I was just glad to actually have weather for a change, whether it was “real” or not. Since launch day, I’ve never had live weather work past my first flight, regardless what I do.
And I’ll note that I experienced none of the typical bugs - no cockpit poltergeist, no AP anomalies (except the “normal” light porpoising using FLC to climb and VS to descend, and only just as I was reaching target altitude). Over the span of my flights, I used the TBM, Grand Caravan, C172, C182 and JBM VL-3.
Until I decided to do a sightseeing flight around Tokyo as my last flight in the C172. I was greeted by clear skies, 225/3, 29.92. A quick check of the actual weather showed it was overcast. That’s also when I started having issues with pretty much everything. I started experiencing porpoising in level AP flight, something I haven’t see in the C172 previously. The cockpit poltergeist starting striking. Light switches were flicking off, display dimming, MFD / avionics shutting down. The usual. Then my Smart Camera and views starting acting up. I knew what this meant. And sure enough, after wrestling with that for a bit, CTD.
It was late at that point and time to get to bed, so I didn’t try again. But I have to say it was a pretty pleasing experience throughout the evening. This is the most bug-free and weather-full time I’ve had with MSFS since it launched. And I did nothing to have to force the weather to work. It just did - as it’s supposed to. Well, until the last flight, that is.
I’m really unsure what to make of this.
