Hey Flight Simmers,
I’m curious if there is a way I can video record a flight. And I want to put it onto YouTube. Is that possible? If so, how do I do it?
Thanks.
Hey Flight Simmers,

press the windows key bottom left on the keyboard. From that pop up menu hit record. That’s the file you can upload to youtube when your finished.
You can press Win G and you will be presented with recording options. Also, if you have an nVidea card, you can press Alt Z for GeForce experience that will give you similar options.
Thanks guys. Really appreciate it!
I use Action! - Screen Recording Software and Gameplay Recorder (mirillis.com) tool to do all my YouTube recordings.
But instead of having to record a video, and upload them to YouTube which takes local storage space and time to upload and process. I use the tool to do “Live Stream Broadcast” to YouTube instead. That way, it’s automatically recorded and processed on YouTube in real time. That by the end of the flight, you can revisit the recording on your YouTube channel directly. No need to allocate storage space, no need to wait for upload and processing to finish. As soon as you finish your flight and stop the stream, your recording is good to go on your channel.
That tool is also really good for 4K HDR 60 FPS broadcast and recording. I always do it whenever I fly from the cold and dark stage all the way to parking and shutdown. Here’s an example.
with an nvidia card, and for normal recording ( no fancy HDR videos ) the best way to do that is haveing Geforce Experiance installed and then you can use Shadowplay. This use the seperate chips for encoding on the nvidia card and it have near zero impact ( usually 1%, in worst condition 5% ) at performacne ( in contrast to most other tools ).
How is it done on Xbox?
Ohh well, I don’t have an Xbox, I never have. So I dunno… The post doesn’t have an Xbox tag on it, so I assume this is on PC.
The Mirillis Action software I posted above uses the same Nvidia hardware encoder as GeForce Exerience, so it works the same way as GeForce Experience. Besides, even GeForce experience can also record HDR videos. They just can’t do livestreaming with HDR. The only difference is that GeForce experience is free if you have Nvidia card, while using Mirillis Action you have to pay for the license. But you get what you pay for, ever since I use the software, I couldn’t bring myself to use GeForce experience again.
Also how do I put music on it?
And how do I get permission to put music on it (i.e. that is copyrighted)?
You can play a music on the background as you fly and record. The audio should be captured as well as long as your recording software is set to record all sounds.
You’ll have to contact the copyright holder directly to obtain permission. But even without it, you should be fine. You have no idea how many copyright flags my video get due to me posting copyrighted audio (like those safety briefing). Worst case is you can’t earn any ads revenue on those videos and any ad revenue would go directly to the copyright holder of those music. I don’t moneytise any of my videos anyway, so they can copyright flag my videos all they like, it doesn’t make a difference to me.
But if you want to be cleared of any copyright flags, you can look for other background music that are either freely used or at least royalty free. That you can purchase a license for them, and you can freely use and post on YouTube without any problems. But that’s up to you, really.
Just a disclaimer though, the majority of audience hates having music on videos that’s not related to the actual content of the video. You have no idea how many people dislike a video because they want to hear what the actual audio from the content without having cringy music overlapping it.
but is not for free and its not necessary to spend one ‘cent’ into video recording for youtube. I know all these videos/sites which compare video-quality ( e.g. the diff CPU vs nvenc , some tools, and on… ) and then, at the end, come Youtube with its own algortihm and all the high-quality stuff is gone
Beside of shadowplay , I also use OBS ( also for free ) in cases where e.g. I need more detailed seperation of audio tracks, etc… But its not so easy to use as shadowplay and depend on game it have an effect on performance.
ah, can be in meanwhile … I not care about much , because most youtubers not aware of the difference. So is for me not worth for yt ( only in case you like these clickbait videos descriptions like "a real pilot reacts in 4k hdr ultra settings you not believe how bla bla "
)…
PS: I do a little bit overstate
its a big topic as @Neo4316 mentioned too. The music in a game is of course recorded as well, but some of it a copyrighted and thus you get a “message” from youtube with a choice ( e.g. yt try to remove the music or added advertising in case the music ower allow that ). I allways try to never post copyrighted music because my goal is “no ads in my videos” → it makes no different for me, but for the people which watch at the end my videos ( I know, on bigger channels yt add ads without asking you ).
In general its also like Nes4316 have mentioned, I don’t like music in videos. In special in videos about a flight-simulator is music for me a immersion breaker ( I not mean trailers or so )…
If you want go future steps with video editing, the best FREE video editing software I can recommend is davinci resolve. You can buy a extended version too, but most of the features in that studio version are made for professionals ( e.g. share work on different machines ) and not necessary.
if you don’t want your vidoe’s taken down due to background music , you can search for royaltyfree music , won’t be the best but it will save you from a takedown
or get permission like neo wrote ^^
What does royalty free mean? Sorry, I don’t know much about the music business industry.
I’m just looking for simple video editing software. Not a professional one.
well, google can help you finding free music. As example YT itself offers a usable library: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary
The mentioned davinci resolve includes different workflows, from easy to professional you can do all ( they offer great tutorial YT videos ). But there are lots of other editors. As example: may simplest is windows video editor , HitFilm Express which is more complex, OpenShot editor is possible more for starters, and on…
For every music, there is a creator who creates that music. The creator of those music has full rights to their own creative work. Even you, if you managed to compose a music and create it, only you have full rights to that music. And you are protected by copyright laws that it is actually illegal for other people to use your music for things that you don’t give explicit permission to do.
Now, every music creator has the right to put rules to how their music is used by other people. Some can impose a royalty license to their music. This means that the creator of the music has the right to gain monetary income whenever the music is being listened to by other people.
For example, if you buy a music CD of your favourite singer. For Every CD that is sold, the money that people paid for the CD goes to the producer of that music, then it is split amongst the creative holder of those music, a certain percentage goes to the singer, then a percentage goes to the writer of the songs if it is written by a different person, and there’s a cut to the recording studio and everything else. The percentage that goes to the creator of the songs are the Royalty.
In the digital music like Spotify where people don’t exactly buy music. The money that you spent on your subscription is then distributed based on the rate of royalty that the streaming platform pays to the music license holder multiplied by the number of times those songs are played. The more times a song is played, the more money the creator/singer gets fom those royalty.
So when we talk about Royalty free, it means that music content that the creators allow other people to play or use the music without being obligated or claim the rights to gain income from those use. Meaning that in the streaming example above, no matter how many times the song is played, the license holder is not expecting to earn any money from it, because they allow the music to be used without claiming royalty.
And this is important to uphold the creative integrity and rights to those creators. If you want to add music that is not your own creation, you need to obtain a specific license to whoever it is created the music that you want to use in your video. If those music creator demands royalty, then you are responsible for paying the creators the agreed amount of money for everytime someone listens to that music. This is impractical of course, because you need to be actively auditing your viewer statistics and calculating the amount of money that you have to pay to the original music creator. And you can actually end up spending money regularly, if you’re not earning enough money coming from the number of views of your videos.
This is why we recommend that if you want to add music to your videos, use Royalty free music. Because these music are given specific license by the creators that you are free to use it and everyone else is free to listen to it, without you having to need to pay them anything else based on the number of times they’re being listened to. Sometimes music creators “sell” these royalty free music with a single one-off payment. Meaning you may need to pay them once upfront to have access to use the music, but at the same time, since it’s royalty-free, you don’t need to keep paying them other than that one-off fee at the front.
If the music is completely free to use, then they’re free to use. You don’t need to pay them anything both in the beginning and for everytime the music is being listened to.
Sorry for the long post, but I hope my explanation helps you understand how creative license works in music.
I make a lot of flight simulator videos. I’ll do a small explanation of my way making them.
Normally I start with searching a nice song, check NCS on YouTube, their music is copyright fee.
With the music picked I start thinking about how to make te movie and what shots I need.
Recording with Nvidia (alt+Z) but I’ve been using OBS studio as well (settings video on my channel)
After the recording I use Sony vegas pro for editing.
Don’t expect you’re first movie to be perfect, it takes time. I’ll add a movie about Cessna’s took me 3 hours of recording for a video less than 2 minutes.
