Don’t Buy From The Market Place

Until this sim gets totally fixed, it is my option, backed on observation and personal dealings, it would be advisable, IF POSSIBLE, to purchase anything you see advertised in the Market Place, directly from the Designed/Distributer! Why? This platform is going through growing pains, I believe the team is doing their best to resolve all the issues, but they are going to care for their product first, and since any of the ADD ON stuff, including UPDATES to those products, must be approved before thy are made available on the Market Place, and once they are turned over to the market place, can no longer be supported directly through them, guess were that leaves you, the consumer! Case in point #1 Had issues with a piece of scenery I purchased. Contacted designer directly, they could not help… Had to go directly through MS Market Place… We all know how that’s been going. Case in point #2 FSDreamteam’s Keywest Scenery has had an update out for over 2 weeks, it is still not available, as of this posting, through the Market Place, and their own Forum Comunications verify that they can not help you as you must wait for the Market Place to Approve the Update before it is made available…Really, 2 weeks ago, that is unrealistic to me.

So until they fix this thing and get a better functioning market place, I’m buying direct…

Just my opinion!

Every point you mentioned is absolutely legit. No doubt about it. I’m still trying to support both the third party devs and Microsoft/Asobo at the same time by buying from the marketplace, and hence have always bought from there only, with the hopes that the issues you mentioned will be looked into and dealt with in the future.

Have you opened a Zendesk ticket to get the FSDT scenery update approved? You also have the option to get it into the wishlist or bugs section where it can be upvoted to better get their attention.

Orbx London landmarks took about 3 weeks to receive the update via the MSFS marketplace. Be patient and it will come!

good thing you aren’t an apple developer then.

If I had the money to buy addons, I would get them from the in-game market place purely to avoid having to download updates from multiple providers. But until I finish upgrading my GPU I am stuck with the base airports

Never the less, thanks for posting valid points.

It doesn’t stop there.

  1. Some or most of these addon vendors require a username and password to buy XYZ addon.

  2. Then they require you to download/install their launcher/installer, and to do that, often times you have to create another username and password. (Case in point: ORBX)

  3. Sometimes some vendors don’t provide launcher/installer, and therefore you have to manually download and install the addon. (Case in point: FSLabs).

  4. Sometimes these same vendors require you correctly solve mathematical puzzles before you are able to register to buy the addon. This is so that they have proof that you are a human and not a cyber bot. (Case in point: Drzewiecki Design).

  5. Once you finish downloading/installing the launcher/installers, you then have to create another set of username and password just to use it. (Case in point: ORBX).

  6. All of these addons bought separately from vendors require you to use separate support forums, which require another set of username and password. (Case in point: ORBX).

  7. Sometimes these vendors install addons wherever they feel like it, and when you move them to a place of your choice, they no longer work. Then you contact them, and they refuse to help (Case in point: Leonardo MD-80 won’t work if you move it out of its initial/original installation directory, which is…wait for it…the C/Users/My Documents).

  8. Sometimes these addon vendors require you to pay a yearly fee just so that they can provide you with technical support. If you complain about it, you get nasty attitude in return. (Case in point: Black Marble).

  9. Sometimes these addon vendors require you to pay extra money if you ever choose to download them again, say a year later (Case in point: LLH Creations).

  10. If these vendors ever go bankrupt and close shop, good luck with downloading or receiving support for the product/s you bought.

I could easily list 20 more points but I’ll spare you the trouble.

Yes…case in point… like “Microsoft Flight” just left everyone hanging.

But, dont get me wrong. MSFS2020 has come back strong. Lets just see if they can truly redeem themselves and make it a truly GREAT simulator.
I have been simming from the 1980s and own just about every sim that has come out. All have had their growing pains, including Microsoft. So, that said, lets all have some patients… for I my self paid for the premium deluxe version and also bought a new system; $6000. But the way i look at it is, it runs ALL I own better, not just MSFS2020.

I say this with up most respect to all us simmers and to Microsoft.

Thanks

Hoped we would see the KEYW update yesterday but nope, nothing… And again silence about updates from Asobo on the marketplace. The bad thing about buying from devs directly is that a console version probably wont get those addons. I might stop buying addons until there is more known about addon support.

You’ll be wanting Hospital Simulator for that.

For the OP. Point taken. There is a marketplace and there are devs that sell directly. Buy from wherever you feel you gain the most benefit.

If you purchase from MS Market, where does it get installed?

Hey TFSG…
I buy all addons from the market place. Best and easiest way to do it.

By the way, l updated to the 1.9.5 and all is working well. I also purchased the Carenado AC, their all working great. I’m not sure what’s happening with others, maybe setups or adding comunity addons, which I think the trouble is, so I have held off on those for now until some of the wrinkles are worked out of the sim. Overall, don’t think ill ever be able to go back to another flight sim, except x-plane 11 but only for the VR. Once MSFS has accomplished this… will be a Crazy Good Sim.

Anyway, thank you FFSG for your reply.

hello

I bought an airport from the market place but it did not donwload anything. I even got the meassege that I made a purchase but I haven´t been able to download the airport. does anybody know what to do?

thanks

If you haven’t already done so, check your content manager, it may indicate a download available and activate it there. It’s also possible it downloaded but is not working due to a scenery conflict as I and at least one other person I know of had… in that case research any freeware scenery you may have installed that share as that area and remove it from your community folder. If that does not solver your problem then you will have to file a trouble ticket with the Market Place.

I never had problems with purchased from the market place. One problem I have is there is a update and when I Update something in the content manager it downloads and then sits there never updating, when I did report to Zendesk. Flightbeam gives a discount if I owned the airport before like P3D so I get the airport from them. I posted in a comment elsewhere it would be nice if we could tag what we got from the vendor like LVFR so it would show in the market place as owned

I would like to know why those 3 weeks, since items in the marketplace don’t seem to have to reach any quality threshold …

I could be completely wrong but this statement is based on my research on a scenery malfunction issue ( and as stated in an earlier post) Once the designer/distributer turns over their product to the Market Place, even though they still sell it through some other outlet, it becomes the responsibility to Fix/Update etc… via the Market Place. They can’t or will not help you with that product unless you purchased it from them direct, as I experience with my purchase. I also experienced this with update issues as with Key West Purchase, it is more than 3 weeks since the product was updated and the Market Place still has not made that update available.
This all may change eventually but as advised my others “Be Patient” … Form Your own opinion as I have mine!

…and here we are, another update to the market place to sell new products, yet they can’t provide an update for a product on their market place, that’s been available to owners that purchased directly, for a month! Really sad!!!
