Drag issue with 7.1 solved?

So is it solved with 7.1? There are contradictory statements.

Thanks and geets

Yes

Nice. Thanks

You’re welcome.
Fly safe.

I think that’s a bit premature to say it’s solved with 7.1

There are only two developers who’ve reported back, one of whom is still testing.
There are quite a few different a/c categories that need to be tested and reported clean before you can realistically check this off the list.

I’m not the a/c dev though, so it’s not really my responsibility to do this.
Who’s is it? Asobo, for breaking it (and didn’t notice, I might add)?
Or does every a/c dev have to revalidate all their product FM’s, or just go on the word that’s it’s fixed based on anecdotal evidence from a tiny % of the a/c user base?

It certainly shouldn’t be up to the users and customers.
In fact, it’s worth remembering that this whole mess likely exists because somebody, somewhere, signed off on a testing sample that wasn’t representative of the broader aircraft ecosystem. Whether that was specific aircraft types, specific flight regimes, or simply an inadequate test matrix, the result was the same: a regression that appears to have affected many users escaped into release because a limited sample was assumed to represent the fleet as a whole.

There also appears to be a variety of other fight model related issues which may or may not be drag bug related but are certainly in the category of SU 7.x broken flight model under specific flight scenarios/use cases. People don’t seem to be imagining these issues, they’ve been replicated by multiple users.

So no, I don’t think we’re at the point where anyone can responsibly declare this solved. We have some positive reports, which is great, but positive reports are not the same thing as verification.

A regression that affected a broad range of aircraft requires broad validation before it’s signed off. Until we see that, “appears improved” is a fair conclusion. “Solved” isn’t.

That uncertainty sucks

Are you in SU 7.1 beta?

There is that Bug report that , aircraft dont accelerating right.

Cant you reproduce it?

Greets

At least I can’t reproduce it with my planes. They behave normally. But I’m not using military jets. Some GA planes (C172, G36) and airliners (A350, FBW A380) are working good.

We’ve encountered an issue with the Flying Fries Gabriel in SU7 ( i’m not in the beta)

The airplane isn’t getting the speed, even when nosing down aLOT (20 degrees?).
You’ll only overspeed slightly when diving down 45 degrees.. also a left 15 degrees roll was introduced. There used to be only a slight half or 1 degrees roll per second.

To me it feels like the drag was reversed combined with the total weight or size of the airframe, which might just be that drag_coefficient they were talking about.

Light (prop) aircraft → Underspeed & added roll possibly because of added drag
Fast (light/jet) aircraft → UNderspeed even with Afterburner, must be added drag
Heavy Jetliners → good speed, but no drag, causing overspeeds.

With light aircraft, the prop thrust moves around the length fuselage in the sim, hitting the tailsurface on it’s way.. with the wrong drag numbers, this effect might be overtuned, causing the exagerated roll.. and fast jets, well, their fuselage is usually straight as an arrow and so is the thrust from the engine, at least, that’s how i gather it.

Just hoping the experts in the beta are right about this thing.

Kindest Regards,

Steiny

Why don’t you just test it in the beta for yourself?

Ah, didn’t realise this was the beta channel, my mistake, excuse me.

As for the reason i’m not in the beta? I didn’t break it. I’m not the reason it got broken. I can’t fix it.

Being a sanitation engineer, cleaning up tonnes of other peoples messes each working day, leads me to believe i’ve done, and been through, enough in the past 22 years… so, thanks for beta testing, much appreciated!

Kindest Regards,

Steiny

Edit PS: the Blacksquare bonanza turbo seems to have suffered the same fate as well a buddy told me..

My bad, I thought you were working with Flying Fries going by your “We’ve encountered an issue…”. No worries!

Right now the only way to check if an airplane is back to its normal (pre-SU7) is in the beta version. It probably won’t be too long until the “stable” version gets updated with this fix

Apparently there’s going to be another beta build to fix the battery and heli issues before anything hits the main release as a hotffix.

General Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a flight model issue that was causing a decrease of drag.

From:

Well, if i wouldhave typed “me and my friends”, that wouldhave aroused less suspision, but yes, you are correct that i’m a small part of flying fries.

With the SU7.1 out now, i’ve tested some more and nothing i did changed the added roll to the left. With SU7.0 it was about 15 degrees per second and now only 1 degrees per second, but i had it perfectly balanced in combination with enginethrust heading to fly as straight as possible at either half or full power… with power off, she flies straight, with full power the roll to the left starts and the aircraft doesn’t even reach the yellow speed-tape, the rollrate seems also reduced.

i lowered the value of the following items by half, but an aileron trim of 0.13 degrees is now needed to fly more or less straight and level: (and this aircraft officially has no aileron trim, but can be manipulated with msfs defaults or through flow pro)

parasite_drag_scalar
induced_drag_scalar
engine_wash_on_roll
rudder_engine_wash_on_roll

Also changed the thrustpitchheading from a slight minus to a positive number to see if she’d roll the other way, but nothing changed… leading me to believe there’s something else going on besides this supposed drag issue they’ve fixed… just haven’t found out what’s actually causing it. Unfortunately i also dont have the time or knowledge (let alone the energy) to solve complicated mathematical equations that are involved in this very complicated simulation.

Even when setting the flightmodel to legacy the roll and lack of top speed persists..

Went into dev mode CFD for a bit and noticed the vectors, or whatever you call them about 10 feet below and behind the tail that i cannot say i’ve noticed before… also because i’ve actually never learnt to read the vectors or the cfd stuff.. maybe you guys know more?

Hope these screenies help, as i’m running out of idea’s… i only learnt this stuff reading the sdk from a noob perspective… almost feels like the weight of light(er) aircraft is not taken into the airstream calculations somehow.

thanks for having a look-see.. i wouldn’t know how else to accurately report what’s wrong with the correct phraseology.

Have a nice day,

Kindest regards,

Steiny

If you are “the developer” you can report it directly on the thread on the Dev forum, which is what it’s for. I see you’ve just done that https://devsupport.flightsimulator.com/t/su7-engine-performance-or-drag-is-wrong/18609/52?u=sonicviz, so along with DC++ & IFT reports they have more work to do! Thanks for following it up there.

I’ve noticed the Hornet also not having as much thrust now. Couldn’t even hit mach 1.5 at 46k feet with low fuel load on a cool dawn flight over Poland.

Really hoping the drag fix is coming soon.
