Draw distance....cliffs.....multiplayer undercarriages

Hi, yeah cliffs are not drawn up until your nearly over the top of them, and multiplayer undercarriages are not drawn up until pretty close to you.
Is this hard coded? Is there a cfg. setting i’ve missed?

I’ve never noticed this. but LOD settings may help.

I’ve been getting the same thing happening. What LOD settings would you recommend?

It is strictly an individual setup thing.
Go as high as possible until you have stuttering/FPS issues.
Then reduce until you have a good setting for your setup.
No guarantees that it may cure your issues, but you will get better views.

I need to set the draw distance myself, so sitting at an airport i can see aircraft taxying and landing without looking like they’re hovering in the air.
And flying VFR around the coast without cliffs popping up when i am a matter of yards away.

This is definitely a bug.

I have experimented with the settings to try and fix this, and nothing mends it.

I particularly like flying VFR coastal sight seeing flights, and all the time the cliffs and slopes are morphing close in front of me, usually only getting to their proper, final shape as they disappear out of view below the nose of the plane.

It’s a real immersion killer.

Did you check your settings? You can choose between (low polygon) generic airplanes and actual airplanes for multiplayer planes (same for AI planes).

Asobo documentation has recently made a big fuss about models level of detail and the amount of polygons that should be visible at certain levels (I think to keep framerates up on Xbox mainly). There is a tool in dev mode that shows the LOD model data and whether it fits the Asobo requirements or not.

Bottom line, it’s really harsh and there’s a lot of polygons in landing gear (round stuff has a lot of polygons) so they are the first to go.

Coming LOD System Changes (PC and Xbox)

As part of the ongoing improvement of the LOD system, the following rules will be implemented in a coming update. These changes can be previewed in the simulation using the Debug LODs tool and the The Statistics Profiler (as explained below). We recommend that you use the information supplied here to prepare/fix the LODs on your assets before this change goes live.

Well i’ve never seen anything in a game where the LOD is NOTHING!
Aircraft displays NO undercarriage until near…i wouldn’t mind if it was shown in a low blocky detail.
That’s way better than thinking the pilot forgot to drop his gear!!
