I’ll have to say I agree that DX12 is not the preferred mode at the moment. I’ve tried all the hacks / settings adjustments I could find. Unfortunately I like flying airliners at large detailed airports with lots of traffic on 3840x1600 via 3090 + 10900k. DX12 does look a bit different / better (smoother?) maybe? It seems to really increase my CPU usage which is my primary limitation of course. It also drastically increases my GPU usage to the point of decreasing performance compared to DX11. I last tried it w/ SU9 beta. We shall see if tomorrows update changes any of this?
I have been using DX12 for a while now and do not plan to go back because I get smoother performance and higher fps.
I just upgraded my PC to a RTX 3080 (16 GB RAM / i7 8700) and was very disapointed to get around 30 FPS (not even stable) with constant freezes. My GPU was never reaching more than 40/50% use yet I was still “Limited by GPU” in stats panel.
I disabled DX12 and it’s insanely better, I’m almost always above 60.
So it looks like there’s a big issue with it.
Any drawbacks of using DX11?
How did you read your GPU %

I use task manager since I went on to DX12. Since then I believe I got more accurate readings of GPU usage. This is because it gives me info about other core use than just 3D. It allows me to see the % used by Graphics 1 engine. I have found I get up to 130% usage of GPU, 90 in graphics1 and 30+ in 3D. It really isn’t 130% overall because there is a calculation for averaging out which I have not found yet. I like checking this to see variations. Only DX12 does this.

Are there any improvements (Sim Update 9 and World Update 9) in DX12 beta in terms of graphics?
I always use DX12 and I do not believe that I yet found any issues or major difference between it and DX11.
I always use dx12 and today installed wu9 i was able in c172sp to drag nav screens and ap to second monitor and it seems less demanding on fps loss, terrain lod 400 and detaillod 200

I’ve been trying DX12 over the past few evenings flying and its definitely a lot better than it was. It does seem very erratic though. Setting terrain LOD at anything above 100% totally kills the sim - 10FPS at a few hundred feet above Venice in the Icon A5. This problem started with SU9 in DX11 but its worse for me with DX12.

I just rebooted the sim with the DX12beta and there is more noticeable stutter but wow I am getting a lot less latency.Cannot wait to see what a more stable version will bring!!
for me DX12 experience is like a nightmare. my PC has Ryzen 5950x cpu and rtx 3090 gpu. on the same spot that i’m testing fps changes, on dx11 I easily get more than 80fps. with dx12 it’s around 30 ( I even saw 0 a few times) and stutters like hell. so dx12 is a no go for me until it’s stable.
strange, what OS are you running it on?
I find DX12 and DX11 to run about the same, maybe slight increase in fps with DX12 but also a little more jerky from time to time, so i went back to DX11 for now.
I run a system like almost the same spec as yours.
5900x on X570 board. RTX3090, 32GB DDR4 at 3800Mhz on an M.2 drive on Windows 11.
I’m running win 11 also. and my system is like below. one last thing I can try is enabling overclock for ram. as far as I remember it is already on but in cpu-z software it shows half of the clock speed. I need to double check that

I dont even think ram plays that big of a role in this case. I have 2x16gb 3200mhz and 2x16gb 3600mhz. xpm is also enabled on dram. since there are mhz differences btw the rams, all behaves as 3200mhz. in my case fps difference btw dx11 and dx12 is more than %60. dx12 lags a loooot, dx11 doesnt even stutter.
what I think of is, look like some settings like terrain,etc. isnt well optimized for dx12 yet.
anyways, looks like I have no other option but wait for msfs devs to release the stable version for dx12
Also for me dx 12 is not fully optimized. It will arrive maybe better with sim update 10.
I also made a video comparison about this including sim update 8 and 9.
In DX 12 we are less main thread bounded but it is still not enough for now.
I just tried to fly in the Fenix on DX12. It started off well but by the end of the flight was getting less than 1 fps. It’s awful.
