This is an idea that’s been in my head for a while. I’ve searched the SDK’s and available simvars and don’t think there’s a way of creating anything myself. It would be great if Asobo could give this some thought.
if Asobo would Allow mission creators, event organisers, task setters and third-party developers to schedule weather-state transitions during a flight by means of a simple script that would replace an individual WPR file. It would necessitate some programming on their part but would provide countless benefits for Gliding competitions, Bush trips. Search and rescue missions. Flying clubs. Military-style scenarios. Airliner training scenarios. Third-party campaign developers. It would certainly enhance all multiplayer groups no matter the aircraft type.
The idea would NOT require Asobo to open up their weather system to third parties, rather it simply requires the transition from one defined weather preset to another at pre-determined times (with a suitable user-defined transition period to avoid instant cloud/weather changes.
my idea would involve the sim setting a timer when we click “Fly Now” then interpret a script that would look something like: (T=timer, TT = Transition Time in minutes)
T+00:00 3/8 CU Fair Weather good thermal strength (WPR)
TT 5
T+60:00 7/8 CU Overdevelopment (WPR)
TT 10
T+80:00 Storm (WPR)
TT 5
T+90:00 1/8 CU Dead Air (WPR)
TT 2
T+105:00 3/8 CU Fair Weather good thermal strength (WPR)
The beauty is that Asobo wouldn’t need to solve localized weather cells to deliver significant value. Real-world pilots must constantly adapt to changing weather conditions. The ability to create evolving weather scenarios would allow realistic training in decision-making, route selection, energy management and risk assessment.
