Hi Devs,
To make it clear, by “gradual controls” I’m referring to settings such as throttle, trim and camera pan, when bound to things such as “trim up, pan left”, etc.)
For some of these settings, the default increments and change rates are very difficult to use in practice. It would be nice to adjust these values by default, but more than that, customizability on these settings would be very much appreciated.
Here are such issues I’ve encountered (as a controller player, but similar things could also apply to some joystick/yoke users):
1.) Trimming: Using a controller. Even with trim bound to the right stick, it treats the stick as a button and the increments are very large, making it impossible to achieve level flight using trim alone.
2.) Throttle: Difficult to control both quickly and accurately, as steps are small, but move very quick when holding the throttle up/down keys.
2.) Camera panning: Panning the cockpit camera with arrow keys is very difficult. One slight tap of an arrow key moves the camera almost the way to the other side of the cockpit, so it isn’t possible to find tune position with them.
Proposed Solutions:
1.) For such key bindings, add an options for how much the value should increment on a keypress, and an option for how quickly the value should change when the key is held.
2.) When controlled by axes “e.g. stick up, stick down”, add an option for analog control with adjustable sensitivity. That way, one could for example slowly adjust trim by slightly deflecting the right stick, and quickly adjust trim by deflecting the stick a lot.
These changes would make flying with a controller significantly easier, and would likely help out soem joystick and yoke users as well.
Thanks!
