Which is easiest flight planner out and why do you recommend please? Thanks
Clearly, Grand Tour Flight Planner is the easiest to use (but then, I wrote it and so am biased). I included several unique features: calculation of the shortest route, adding POI’s by name, many built-in plans, VFR moving map, pretty good users’ guide, many options.
If you are okay with a Subscription based Service, you can’t beat Navigraph. Simbrief (flight planner) is free, but the AIRAC is outdated.
If you get a Navigraph subscription you get the updated AIRAC (not only for Simbrief flight planning, but also to update the SIM and your third party aircraft, along with other applications such as Pilot2ATC, Little Nav Map, etc…).
Along with your subscription you also get access to their charts.
If you are looking for a freeware project, Little Nav Map is pretty awesome.
Hello,
The SDK category is for software developers.
I moved your thread into Third Party Addon Discussion.
Well I think the “easiest” flight planners is just the default MSFS world map. Point one place on the map as your departure point, and click on another spot on the map and set your destination. Switch to either VFR or IFR flight, and click ready to fly…
ASA E6B Flight Computer and Rotating Plotter
For GA aircraft definitely Littlenavmap
As said above the EASIEST flight planner is the MSFS default and if you just want to plot from A to B with maybe a C,D & E then it’s fine.
Anything other than that is going to require some learning. For VFR, freebie Little Navmap is very hard to beat but it does take a little learning and using all of it’s excellent features takes a bit of practice, even with the comprehensive “help” files, but IMO is worth the effort and maybe can add more fun into your flights.
For IFR I use SimBrief which is pretty straightforward and, like LNM, resulting flightplans can be exported to MSFS for use in the sim. On it’s own it’s also free but, again as mentioned above, it uses old Airac data that has been known to cause problems as the sim gets updated whenever the Airac is updated. If you buy a Navigraph subscription then everything including LNM can be synchronised with the very latest information.
There are other flight planning resources out there, some integrate well with the sim whilst others don’t. I stick to those I’ve mentioned as working well for me.
As an aside, I’ve found that with a little bit of working around using LNM & Simbrief I can usually persuade ATC to behave correctly when flying IFR. VFR has never been a problem with ATC - well excepting it’s inability to select the correct runways in relation to wind, but that’s another thread!
