Edit parking positions of default airports

Hi there,

I’ve seen some parking positions at EDDF are too small (i.e. they show as Gate Medium though it’s Gate Large in real life), and the wing span for these parking positions is also too small. Can I edit this in SDK? SDK is showing me the relevant parking positions and their size in the ‘Debug’ view (see screenshot and yellow highlighting of the relevant parking position), but I can’t seem to find a function to edit the specifications of the parking positions. Do I need additional software for this?

Thanks,
Christian

At the moment the only proper way to modify them is to redo the whole parking and taxi network
And for an airport like Frankfurt is gonna be a lot of time

You can use this utility to get started

Or you can wait for the Scenery Gateway ( World Hub) to come alive in world update 14 (according that Microsoft will solve the technical issue with Xbox login)

Thank you for your quick response! I presume the same applies to

  • Editing taxiways, e.g. ensuring AI aircraft do not taxi along active runways, and
  • Issues such as closing a runway for takeoffs (runway 7L/25R in EDDF is only available for landings but the Sim doesn’t know that)?

Thank you!

Correct, is the same for editing taxiways,
Anyways AI driving on runway cannot be solved in the SDK, it is something that Asobo should fix

The same goes for the runway, there is no way on the SDK to select the direction of a taxiway/runway

I have to admit, this is one of those things that really surprises me. Given Asobo built a graphical scenery editor into the simulator you’d three years in we’d have the ability to do something simple like edit parking space sizes and airlines codes. This was the simpliest thing to do in FSX and P3D using ADE or AFCAD before that.

Editing default airports is one thing (there’s a lot of work to do there and Asobo is simply farming that work out to the community with the Scenery Gateway) but its another thing when 3rd party developers are lazy and don’t put the correct parking spaces/airline codes into their airports… And seemingly there’s no way to edit those so we’re at the behest of lazy developers.

You can edit them pretty much as easily as you could in FSX. As noted above, Airport Design Editor is available for MSFS, and you can use it to edit projects directly, or you can create a project with it and edit it in the Scenery Editor in Developer mode. Or you can even edit the xml by hand if you want and compile it.

Point being, there’s lots of ways to edit a taxi network.

Even in FSX, editing a network like Frankfurt was a lot of work. And those were tools created by users for the community. Now MSFS supports editing natively.

Also, as noted above, they are about to release the “Scenery Gateway”, which supposedly will allow people to edit taxi networks much more easily. It got held up because of issues getting it to work on Xbox (security stuff they didn’t realize they had to do).

The problem is, once you get into editing the taxi network, you end up realizing you want to edit everything else about the airport, too… :flushed:  :confounded:

sigh

I’d be very interested if you could tell me how to add/adjust the parking codes at a third party airport like iniBuilds EGLL. Lots of third party airports don’t open in ADE. This was possible in P3D/FSx but not MSFS

Did you purchase it through the Marketplace? If so, it’s encrypted, so you wouldn’t be able to edit it directly.
I haven’t tried to edit any thirdparty airports myself. I do my own from the default airports.

Be that as it may, you could create your own network from the default version of said airport, and have it replace the taxi network of the 3rd party scenery, but keep everything else about the airport. It may be tough to get the gates working properly though, I don’t know how they work. I only do GA airports.
