I see it’s on Orbx! I’m hoping it’ll come to Marketplace soon since I prefer being able to keep track of updates in one place, but I might end up getting too impatient…
We were hoping for a Marketplace release today, but it looks like there was not an update once again. Hopefully we will see it drop sooner rather than later!
I think I’ll just buy it on Orbx then… I’ll be back with screenshots after my first flight!
Cheaper to buy direct from ESD’s own website…
This is what I really don’t understand about the in-game marketplace system. You’ve clearly done all you need and can to get the product released. You’ve not heard back from them about any issues, blockers or requirements to fulfil before it can be released, you were expecting it to be available on last Thursday. Yet here we are gone Monday and still in the dark.
But I read that some other developers say it can go through near instantly now sometimes. So why is the experience so varied from product to product when the process has been followed the same?
And why do they not communicate back to developers better? Surely that could be automated. It must make it so frustrating for developers to have any sort of control over their marketing and customer experience.
Very unprofessional!! (By Microsoft I mean). Sad!!!
As far as I know, the trim is only ground adjustable in this aircraft. In real life, you should not be able to adjust it during a flight.
But it’s handy to be able to bind a keybind for it. So yeah, if you want a realistic experience, don’t touch the trim when you fly.
In this case, it doesn’t look to just be our product being withheld. It really seems like nothing was released on Friday or Monday. At least nothing new. Updates are a little hard to prove. As far as I am aware, unless they specify otherwise, marketplace releases are suppose to happen daily Monday-Friday.
I will say, this is the first time I can think of that there has really been a delay in release for anything I have done for 2024. Normally it’s next day after I sign off. It’s been much more predictable than 2020 ever was, which is why the delay is odd.
My best guess is there was some delay with the sale and local legend packs they released. Then again, that’s only a guess.
Hopefully we will see it today… fingers crossed.
Pietenpol Air Camper - Now Available on Marketplace!
The Piet is now available on the MSFS 2024 Marketplace for PC & Xbox. A free 1-day trial and 3-day rental option is also available!
We know many of you have been patiently waiting for Microsoft to drop this one since last Friday, and we are ecstatic to see that it has finally arrived with today’s Marketplace update. We hope you all enjoy the Piet!

Grabbed it as soon as I could and have been flying for over an hour now. Loving everything about it. It’s a great looking representation, sounds great, and is a lot of fun to fly. So many great liveries to choose from, too! That always makes a purchase even more worth it for me. I would maybe like to see the smoke system bound to the “Toggle Smoke” keybind if ever possible, but beyond that I give it a 10/10. I’m gonna be having a lot of fun in this thing! Being a parasol-wing aircraft it’ll be great for sightseeing too, which is usually not so great in the old biplanes I’m used to flying in the sim. Thank you all who made this a reality!
Fantastic screenshots, JB!
I’ve been greatly enjoying flying the Pietenpol the past few days too. I’ve seen a lot of real-world Pietenpol pilots comment on how fun they are to fly, and even fun to land, with how easy they are to slip, and I’m glad that’s well represented with ESD’s flight model. Though I don’t know if it should be so difficult to keep straight down the runway with a minor crosswind, as I’ve never heard/read a real-world Pietenpol pilot comment on takeoffs ever being challenging. I have read some comments by real-world pilots that mention that the Pietenpol handles quite similarly to a J-3 Cub, but that you feel and hear a lot more wind in the Piet (being completely open cockpit).
For what it’s worth, unless someone in MS told you differently, product releases and any updates to marketplace products only appear on Tuesdays and Thursdays (at least for US time zones). Just sharing this as I see consternation in expecting marketplace updates on other days of the week.
I’ve had new releases drop on Friday before. Piet dropped today (Wednesday) as well. This is what they state this on the marketplace recent releases page:
In-sim Marketplace updates usually go live each weekday from Monday through to Friday. This page will be refreshed every Thursday.
It does say usually, so I’m sure there was just an exception this time, as well as on Monday. As far as I know, they have been doing daily releases for a little while now.
Either way, it’s out now so no big deal. Just a tiny wrench in the release plans which have been otherwise pretty predictable.
I’m glad to hear that you are enjoying the Piet! This is something we were looking into even before release, but just never figured it out in time. However, today I was given a good lead on how to potentially bind it and still have the smoke be multiplayer compatible, so I plan to circle back to it for an update!
I cant speak too much on the flight model as that was not my area of focus in the project, however from what I have been told and my current understanding is there are some struggles when it comes to controllability and taildraggers in the sim. More about how the airflow interacts with the tail feathers. The Piet having a more aft CG doesn’t help here.
I cant say I’ve had too much trouble handling cross winds, but I suppose I also have a good bit of seat time in it now throughout the development process. Taking off or landing in a 3-point attitude with some backpressure does a lot in helping to maintain control.
She is definitely a little spicy on takeoff. Settles right down in the air though, and is a delight to fly.
I’ve seen them on a Monday quite a few times. Used to be Tuesday and Thursday but not anymore.
That’s the second time in my life I’ve ever heard anything Piet-related called “spicy” - the first was AvAngel’s preview! It’s quite surprising to see and read of the takeoff behaviour compared to real-world reports and anecdotes.
But I’m still excited it’s available, and moreso that there’s a free trial to get into. Thanks a bunch to everyone involved.
After a bunch of flights, I don’t find the Piet spicy at all anymore. At first, takeoffs were a bit hard, but once you know how to handle the thing, it just takes off gracefully.
I think what may be the real difference between what we have in the sim and piloting a real aircraft is the perception. We lack haptic/tactile feedback.
So grateful for the free trial. I wish every developer did this. It’s very hard to know if you will like some aircraft until you can actually try them.
After flying the ■■■■ out of this the past few days, I can now reliably take off and land without things getting out of hand lol. Great plane!! If this plane is any indication of some of the future releases (looking at the taylorcraft next!) We are in a great place for the sim and new releases
