Engine Reversers

Hi Everybody,

Am I the only one having an issue with the reversers. They activate just fine, but don’t seem to have the bite one would expect when at full reverse. Takes a long time to get to 80 knots.

Anyone else notice this?
Thanks

Can you specify which plane are you referring to? I only see the pmdg tag but don’t know which airplane are you talking about

Hi,

This would be the PMDG 737-800.

It’s probably engaging just idle reverse. If you search youtube for “PMDG Reverse Thrust”, there are a couple of short videos at the top which show how to do it. But from memory, I think you map your reverse thrust control to “Decrease Throttle”, which will turn on the reversers as well as spool up the engines. You can spawn your flight with engines on at the runway to quickly test out how the reversers work to make sure it’s mapped correctly.

Have the same issue, only on 747/787.

Are you also applying an autobrake setting for landing as well as reverse thrust? It will take you a long time to slow down to 80 knots just on reverse thrust!!

Yup, what Chewwy Said… if you dont turn the knob for autobrake, it’ll still be in rejected Take Off mode or RTO and will only give you some reverser not the whole stopping power.
Set the autobrake knob to the size of runway you are going to land at (1 for long, 3 or even Max for a short runway ) and dont forget to arm the spoilers and it’ll stop thoroughly quickly. Also, wait for the airplane to come to a complete stop when using the highest setting, or she wont move, or maybe you’ve even cooked the brakes.

Reverse thrust is a help on a big airplane as the 737, together with brakes and spoilers, she can stop hard… thrusters alone, and you’ll be in the next state before she stops. Other than the smaller airplanes with reverse thrust, they actually slow down significantly. Also check that the handles are actually coming up on the backside of the throttles and not just popping back. The popping back is applying, the pulling back on those popped up levers is actually delivering more thrust into the reversers.

hope it helps.

have a great flight, Captains!

Hi,

As you can see in the video I have the autobrake set as well as the speed brake. Jump to 59:25 in the video. If I don’t get on the brakes we’ll roll off the end of the runway.

According to Topcat I should have plenty of runway. This happens every flight.

Hi,

I just took another look at the video. It looks like it takes the PMDG about seven seconds for the reversers to go full once the handles are pulled up.

There shouldn’t be that long of a delay in deployment/thrust. Looks like a PMDG issue tome.

Thanks everybody.

You’re landing with what looks to be flaps 30 on a 1500m runway with from what I can see only autobrake 2 selected, so I’m not all too surprised you almost used the full length! I don’t see anything here that looks too out of the ordinary from the perspective provided.

Hi Everybody,

There was an issue with the response time of the reversers, it’s most noticeable during my gate departure using the reversers to back out, one minute into the video. During my pushback under power there was no spool down to worry about before the engines can go to 80%N1, notice the delay once the reverser handles are raised?

This has now been corrected thanks to LRBS over on another forum. If you find you’re having the same delay in reverse thrust, you may want to try this fix if you’re using FSUIPC to control your reversers.

I had the following in FSUIPC7

ButtonRepeat=20,10,

after changing it to

ButtonRepeat=20,0

the problem is gone.

Thanks everybody!
