Since a couple of weeks now, something made the engine sound in every cockpit (default or addon) much lower than before while the exterior sound is Ok.
I am trying to look for any addon or any reason behind this but I can’t find anything.
I did not change anything from the past settings in-sim or speakers or headphone, it is just that the engine sound in all cockpits turned much lower than before. Mystery!
Understandable. But to solve the volume issue, have you tried readjusting the volume sliders now so that you can return to how it sounds before?
Also, it depends on how you setup your speakers. Do you use a 2.1 speaker setup, a headphone, or a 7.1 surround sound setup? Cable sometimes make a difference too, do you use analog audio cable, or digital cable like HDMI or Optical?
Windows sound setting sometimes get reset to a different speaker setup, disabling some speakers and may affect the volume of sounds that used to come to different speaker channels. I know I had to reset my Windows sound mode at least once a week because it keeps reverting to Stereo while I want it to use my 7.1 speaker setup.
Thanks for the hints. I will take a look again at all thee parameters.
But the only sound that became lower is the engine in the cockpit. Not the global sound. The rest of the sounds in MSFS including engine from outside as well as other apps is as usual.
I believe something made the engine volume in the cockpit lock on a lower value although the slider is at max. Perhaps the config file has a clue about it.
I have all at max inside sim, in win os all is ok but sim runs half lower. I need set my tv to more with sim start to hear also minimums call. My tv is set to std with volume and again, win sounds are ok but sim, horrible.
Then again, it depends on which aircraft you’re referring to. Different aircraft can be coded differently when it comes to sound volume. What works on the FBW A32NX, may not work the same way on the default A320. Then we have various other third-party aircraft that have their own coding and stuff.
And sound seems to be a subjective thing. People will have different preferences on what they want to hear inside the cockpit. For example, like on an older A320, we’re used to hearing the PTU “barking” sound when the engine is starting up. But that’s also because we’re always sitting as a passenger. When you fly the A320 in the cockpit, you feel like you’re expecting the barking sound to also be audible. But we sometimes forgot that the PTU sound is not exactly audible inside the cockpit. And the new A320neo has been redesigned that the PTU sound is not even audible at all anymore. But some people still prefer to listen to it, and made custom adjustment to the settings that make it so.
It’s just an example, really. Perhaps the sounds were changed deliberately because someone noticed that it’s “too loud” from inside the cockpit and made some coding adjustments to make it more quiet.
Like I said, if your slider is already at max and you feel it’s too quiet. Then the solution would be to make other sounds more quiet than the interior engine sound, and increase your master volume instead. That way, the sound volume that you have deliberately reduced, is restored to the same volume by the higher master volume. But your interior engine sound will be louder because of the higher master volume as well.
