So, the engines of the airliners although realistic, they could be more exciting with more acute, high frequency screaming and roaring tones. I could give a few audio samples with more exciting spool up engine sounds. Am I the only one who wishes to hear more exciting engine spool-up sounds?
If you download and install the development version of the A32NX mod from FlyByWire team, you would hear the new, more realistic engine sounds.
Εxcellent. Ideally, we should be able to choose engine sounds from various manufacturers like Rolls Royce, General Electric etc. I wonder if the B747 will have a different engine option (for sound only).
My god the VNAV and FMC aren’t even working in the 747 and you want better engine sounds?!
I think there are more important topics at the moment!
For the A320 it’s already set to the CFM LEAP 1A engine that was specified in the MCDU. So there’s no need to make a choice on that.
Simple question, do you want realistic, or fake but exciting?
The truth is, modern engines such as the LEAP 1A are much quieter than previous generation engines. Both internally and externally.
People would also be surprised how quiet engine sounds are from the flight deck. When you’re sitting 50-100ft in front of the engine it sounds completely different to what you hear down the back in row 45.
It is easier to add audio samples for engine spool ups, than solving difficult coding errors, like the ones you mentioned.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m71TXEQahsA The whine of the engine is more intense in real life than in the simulator…
This actually sounds a lot softer than what I’m hearing in the sim. But the latest A32NX dev mode is pretty close to this already.
The 747 does sound more exciting irl than in the game…
Well, I dunno about you. But a community run project like the A32NX that’s practically free means I shouldn’t expect a studio level lossless recording quality for the sounds. I’m already appreciative that they make and effort to make the sound more realistic to the actual engine sounds instead of complaining it’s not good enough as if I can do a better job.
And that’s the benefit of a community run project. If you think you can improve the sound quality better than they do, you can do so. Make your own recording, do a pull request apply the new and better sound and have it approved by everyone involved in the project. Voila, a better quality.
How do I enable the PTU “barking dog sound” in the A320NX? I found in the “flypad” under settings there is a setting where you can enable it but I still don’t hear it!
You might need to switch to a wing camera to hear it.
Τhe latest official MFS video about sound editing for developers includes engine sounds too. The next video will examine further how to replace default engine sounds with others! That is amazing news to those of us who enjoy old school whining, screaming B707 spooling engines…
IF anyone can do this kind of modification, let us know!
