Erbil is the largest city and capital of the Kurdistan region of Iraq. The center of the city is the roughly 7000 year old Citadel, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on Earth. The roads radiate out from the Citadel and are amazing from the air at night. I first flew into Erbil in 2015, landing at 0300 local time as ISIS was not far down the road and I’ll never forget the view of the city as we approached. It has become a home away from home for me as I’ve traveled there often over the past five years.
