Background

The day before I was using MSFS 2024 without issues. I flew come career missions and then a free flight. After the free flight I selected to return to the main menu. The application hung on that steps for 4-5 minutes, at which point I launched Task Manager and killed the application, which I have done before with such hang ups. Today, when I launch it, I get the error.

Troubleshoot steps taken

I worked through all of the Advance Troubleshooting steps, except for the corrupted Windows update one.

YOUR SETTINGS

This is unlikely relevant since I’ve been successfully using MSFS 2024 since day

After more searching, I figured out with was related to XBox. But since those services are working, I suspected my VPN blocking something. Turned off the VPN, issue resolved.

Moved to User Support Hub Install, Performance & Graphics since a solution has been marked.

Interesting, because I don’t use a VPN but once in awhile I get a sim CTD during loading at about the 25% range, and then after such a crash I get that same error. The only way to resolve it is to reboot my PC.

Given your finding with regard to your VPN, I suspect the error has something to do with Windows’ networking stack or XBox services’ use of the network. Next time I have a crash like that I’ll experiment with restarting various Windows’ services to see if I can launch the sim successfully without a full computer reboot.
