SUPERSONIC FLIGHT IS NOW POSSIBLE ON MSFS “MODERN FLIGHT MODEL”!!!?!?!
Yes. Long story short the modding community has discovered that setting to zero certain parameters in the flight model configuration, it is actually possible to get planes to go well beyond Mach 1.0 which seemed, initially, an hard-coded limit in the flight model.
However, this approach has a number of limitations in our opinion and moreover afterburner are not yet properly supported. In addition to that, some modern fast jets have complex avionics and sensors which are difficult to replicate in MSFS.
On the other hand, Microsoft showed proper supersonic flight modeling in the recent “Feature Discovery Video” on aerodynamics.
Other developers are working hard creating fast jest: we all like military fighters and the MSFS market has a huge profit potential.
We’d like to jump onto the bandwagon, of course, but we will try our best to stick to our committment of quality level, realism and continuous improvement.
That being said we have been working on three fighter jets, but they are nowhere near completion. Here is the status of the projects:
EUROFIGHTER TYPHOON - the jet is already flying in the sim, but we believe the current graphics quality level (port over from P3D) is not adequate for a platform as capable as MSFS. Project is currently under review and may need a complete remake.
F-35 LIGHTNING II - the P3D model is being vastly improved, with higher poly count and better textures. Cockpit is being rebuilt from scratch. Unfortunately, MSFS currently does not allow support for a number of the sensors of this aircraft.
F-14D “SUPER” TOMCAT - We have been working on a VERY detailed rendition of the mighty Tomcat - which, as you know, it is our favourite aircraft. However, frankly it is unlikely that it can surpass the excellent work done by Heatblur on the F-14 for DCS…and there is still a lot of work to do.
So, for the moment our highest priorities are the T-45C for MSFS and the MB-339 for DCS. Soon we’ll have more news on both!
