Back in August, there was a PCGamer article where Jorg mentioned that they’ve added every lighthouse. The consensus was they would be generic lighthouse models placed at every lighthouse location, just like towers and wind turbines. However, after flying to a handful of lighthouse locations, I still only see the same buildings that were always there. Has anyone found the new lighthouse models anywhere?
Here’s the quote from the article:
“This is all 2024 talk—we made every airport look much better. We added every glider airport. We added every oil rig. We added every lighthouse. It feels like whatever comes to your mind you can actually do now, if you embrace the cloud.”
I found some oil rigs of the coast of Aberdeen, and they look much better than previously. Not found a Lighthouse yet in the UK or Ireland, but haven’t really looked properly.
I’m not seeing them here in CA. I’ve flown past Point San Luis (inactive) and I’m flying past Piedras Blancas (active) right now and I haven’t/don’t see any buildings that look like lighthouses.
Piedras Blancas is just a squat round building a bit like a round industrial storage tank.
Yeah, I recalled this too, was excited to try searching for my first lighthouse (Cape Canaveral) and come to find that it is just a mobile tower antenna or something. Tried with and without photogrammetry. Disappointment, like many other “features” for 24.
Must be another bug - or just plain false advertising. Not the first time, probably not the last.
Considering the sim’s been out for six months, I think it was the latter. It would have likely been an easy bug to fix in time for SU1 or SU2. It’s possible that it’s something they’re still planning on in the future but had zero chance of including it around the release of MSFS24, but who knows. So many times over the years we’re told one thing and then the reality turns out to be another.
I think a lot of the scenery content announced was missing at launch and is still being rolled out.
“More than twice the photogrammetry of 2020” the Lighthouses, a lot of LIDAR data, the flowing rapeseed crop fields we see in promo video, that sort of thing.
Maybe it just wasn’t ready or they decided to stagger the releases as new “content” instead to continue to promote 2024 over 2020?
Jorg also said a lot the new data and satellite imagery would be available for 2020 at launch of 2024 but it is only now being rolled out as part of SU16.
In FS24? I can’t say “every” lighthouse, but yeah, I do see them. I was just flying along the French Riviera over the weekend and I recall seeing at least 2 lighthouses. I’ve also seen a few on US coastal areas.
You’ve seen photogrammetry lighthouses. Those are simply lighthouses that happened to be within a photogrammetry area. I’ve seen them too, for years. That’s not what this discussion is about.
Jorg’s comment was about “every lighthouse” being added to MSFS24. As I posted originally, the consensus is that there would be a generic model of a lighthouse in every location where a lighthouse exists, similar to how the sim currently handles wind turbines and towers, but instead there has been no change as of yet.
I am presently flying down the west coast of the U.S. at low level, and I can confirm that many lighthouses are missing. The aforementioned Piedras Blancas for example…also not in my sim…I just flew by that location yesterday on my way to Catalina Island KAVX.
Was disappointed to see the Port Washington, WI lighthouse is missing. If i knew how I’d at least make a free pack of all the lighthouses of the great lakes. I’m currently modeling the Long Beach, CA lighthouse for a project which is what got me thinking.
I’m going to be looking into it. I think 8’m capable of modeling simple structures like lighthouses without too much trouble. The question is whether or not I have the time to do them all and get them published. I do have a developer’s account already so there’s that.
