Excessive reflections, glare, tint & opacity - canopy

Thanks, that’s weird it affects legacy too.

I have the C170B but the glass cockpit screen for the avionics isnt visible during night time so it’s unusable until they fix it.

I have a support ticket with Caranedo for that but I imagine it’ll be a while

FYI, there is a Wishlist for an option to turn off windscreen reflections. This post by @ExtraPilot6480 lists a number of aircraft affected by reflections on Feb-01-2025:

It should be bug-logged as it is so easy to reproduce - on a sunny day, just fly a Daher TBM over the white markings on the runway during take-off or over nearby white-topped buildings and look straight ahead - the distracting reflections you see are of the ground, not of the subdued aircraft interior as they should be.

But it isn’t even feedback-logged?

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
Yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
One way to display the opacity of the canopy is - for aircraft with operational canopy vents - open them & compare the vent / canopy opacity with the clarity of the open vent hole. E.g. for the JMB VL-3 Left & right vents.

IMO, the JMB’s opacity is still too white:

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

I think it all boils down to excessive reflections.

The windshield reflection effect in the MSFS 2024 simulator is very strong. The strong reflection effect is straining and damaging to the eyes. Please reduce the strength of the effect and provide an option for the user to switch it off.

This screen capture posted by AirPixNJ on another thread is an excellent illustration of the problem.

MS/Asobo, this is clearly a BUG and the many threads on the problem in the various forums add up to hundreds of users reporting, so why is it still not Bug-logged?

Replying to my own post, as I am testing with SU2 beta, issue is NOT fixed. Here is a screenshot with the Robin DR400 Cadet. Massive internal reflections on the canopy.

SU2 also breaks the airspeed indicator (values are much too high) but that is a different matter.

From my understanding, the windshield fix is for each individual aircraft. It seems that Robin 400 needs more care than a windshield fix…

These “reflections” remind me very much of hard-plastic food storage containers, like this:

Glass irl does not reflect everything you throw at it, otherwise it would be a mirror and not see-through. I feel like this reflections stuff is overkill, its not really necessary but if you screw it up everyone will notice.
But this photo really does look like a hard plastic container!

If I turn off Raymarched Reflections, this problem goes away. Increasing the Raymarched Reflections make the problem worse with the higher the setting.

The windscreen reflection is still present in many planes, GA in particular. Despite a comment of a “fix” for some aircraft in early Release Notes, I cannot find any aircraft where it has improved, nor have I found any setting (including Raymarched Reflections) which has any effect. The effect is worse in VR, as each eye receives different reflections, but clearly visible in 2D. It is obviously incorrect, as you can see the reflection of the ground immediately below the aircraft as if the aircraft was invisible. FS2020 did not suffer from this bug.

There is some good investigation carried out by @Flak99 which may help the developers solve this long-standing and widespread bug :

Despite the large number of votes, this topic is still not “Feedback-logged” let alone “Bug-logged”, yet it is easily reproducible - just take off in the Daher TBM930 in Queenstown New Zealand (NZQN) on a clear day for example. In this case, the landing is even worse than the take-off.

Asobo should take this problem more seriously.

I was hoping that this reflection problem would be addressed with SU2, but what a disappointment.
Please MS/Asobo, it’s not possible to enjoy a sightseeing flight in this condition.

As requested, I can confirm that this problem is still not solved in SU2.

It does astonish me that this obvious problem with numerous aircraft giving a totally incorrect, unrealistic and distracting effect is receiving no attention whatsoever from Asobo. The problem did not exist in FS2020, so it is a major regression. It seems to be by design (so many aircraft having the same design flaw cannot be coincidence) which really makes me doubt the competence of the designers in mimicing the real world.

Despite suggestions above, I have not found any user workaround.

Hi,

Is it just me or have the reflection issues become worse after SU2, especially in VR?

May have gotten worse, but the problem is so bad to start with, anything worse would be hard to detect.

How something like this gets accepted by so many people without expressing complaint is hard to believe.

Let’s get 1,000 votes to get MS/Asobo’s attention!

I have found this surprising as well. Those posting things like “working perfectly for me” just can’t be flying the same planes as me!

The windscreen opacity and reflections are just as obnoxious as they have ever been in FS2024, while FS2020 is OK. Why did they have to change it?

On the 152 it even affects the gauges and you cant read them…

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• YES

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• C152 gauges too shiny / incorrect reflections
This does not happen on the 152 on MSFS2020

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

the same plane on the same place time and date on MSFS2020:

It is now 6 months since this very obvious problem was reported. It is very easy to reproduce - anyone flying one of the many affected planes will suffer from it. It is a problem with FS2024, but perfectly OK in FS2020.

Could someone in authority please explain why this is still only feedback-logged, when it ticks all the boxes to be a full bug-logged fault?

As far as I am aware, it has never even been commented on by Asobo, although it is at last marked as being “investigated”.
