ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
Excessive reflections, glare and tint on canopy obscure pilot view of outside world. Problem occurs on most built-in airplanes, and is most noticeable when weather set to clear sky and the sun is high in the sky. Ground and water seem to be reflected right through technically solid airplane bottom.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
No community mods/add-ons.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
All the time.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Load any built-in airplane with a glass canopy
  2. Set weather to clear sky
  3. Set time to noon
  4. Observe how washed out the exterior looks through the windshield and side windows
  5. Stick head outside the canopy and see the difference

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are currently plugged in, as well as your VR headset? Please name all of them as there could be a potential conflict.

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
No

[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?
RTX 4090

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?
Intel I9-14900K, Pimax Crystal Light

MEDIA

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• Yes my reflections are absolutely horrible an only disappear on nearly touch down, they get worse the more sun or bright surroundings like snow covered mountains are around me. Whatever settings changes have absolutely NO effect.

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

Agreed with exaggerate reflections. Option to turn that off would be great. windshield effects don’t seem to make a difference.
I’ll add that the reflections behave like the plane is transparent. In VR fly in Australia, with red soil under the plane and then traverse a Lake, blue or green and the colors of your dashboard will change. Alternatively, fly upside down and watch the color change in the wrong way. Rays can’ go through the fuselage.

This is also seen in 2D, and is the subject of a separate bug report - see:

Perhaps these two need to be merged?

I voted for that one too, but I think it doesn’t hurt to keep this one going at the same time, as it specifically relates to VR, even though the problem is similar to the one observed in 2D.
Hopefully we’ll gather enough votes to get logged, so Asobo will be aware that the problem exists in both VR and 2D. :+1:

This one is interesting. The reflections are the city of Victoria below me. Those windows could not possibly be reflecting the city below as they are angled inward. The window reflections are “seeing through” the aircraft.

What plane is that?

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Yes same issue

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• Can reproduce. Even after many months it is still not solved today. I just updated and tried the sim again but it is still useless to me, canopy glare obscures view, the instruments are unreadable and washed out. Totally frustrating experience.

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:
• The above says it all.

Description of the issue:
Reflections on inside of the windshield are too much. It highly obstructs the view outside and is unrealistic. It’s a great feature, but it’s overdone.

Did you experience this issue before you joined the Beta?
No, seems to have gotten worse.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
No, occurs on all aircraft.

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
It is worse at night but is apparent at all hours.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

1.Load sim with windshield effects on High
2.Fly
3.

YOUR SETTINGS

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
No

[PC Only] Many issues may be due to an outdated graphics card. Please state your Graphics Card Driver Manufacturer (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD) and Version:

RTX 4080 Super

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?
Ryzen 9 9950

Not sure if it was like this in 2020, if this is intended, or a bug, looking for what others see/think

For example: Zlin Savage Norden, this is the cockpit at night flying over ground with snow on it

I also included a video, it looks even worse in motion:

They definitely changed the material shaders. And the windshield material got some extra effects added. I think devs just need to find the perfect values for the material properties to get a nice balance. It’s going to look different on other planes. I wouldn’t consider that a bug.

You should turn down the interior lights if you expect to see anything out the window. Just like real life. Supposedly the lighting values are more realistic, so night is very dark compared to those white lights.

Valid point but I think it’s clearer in the video - the reflection is of the ground below not the lights in the cabin. It diminishes once I move off from snowy (white) terrain below to flying over something darker like a lake. There’s not really a noticeable difference with the cabin lights off.

Hopefully they tune it a bit for sure

This is not limited to night flying. I noticed similar excessive internal “hazing” on the C172 as well. Hope they tone it down

daytime, low over snowy trees reflect waaay too much. all those white blobs constantly move upward. because of the way reflections are calculated, it doesnt consider the interior of the plane, so those reflections are from the ground underneath

Yup it’s mostly noticeable over white ground (snow cover).

Try flying over a snow covered ground at night and it’s almost unplayable

In some circumstances the sunlight from the front at daytime makes the windshield completely white. Much more worse than in the video here. You can see absolutley nothing.
Also glass cokpiz screens show sometimes almost nothing.
An old bug from 2020 is still there: fog outside also drasw contrast of glass cokpit screens. Whuite letters become unreadable.

The shaders need defintely to be reworked.

Is this issue specific to the Zlin Norden? I assumed it affected all GA since they should share the shaders but I havent tried any others

I saw it in different GA aircraft. Also in Carenado 3rd party aircraft bought for 2020.
