Glass opacity problem in Asobo aircraft

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Some aircraft from Asobo that were updated from MSFS 2020 have problem with glass windows becoming more opaque in direct sunlight. This is the most glaring (pun intended) issue in DV20, Cirrus SR22, Baron G36 and Robin DR100 but there may be other aircraft with the same problem, I haven’t checked every one.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

All the time if the sun is up

• yes

• as per OP

Yes same problem in most of the default aircraft. VL3 is particularly bad, and so is the TBM.

I assume it is due to the fact that windshield effects always reverts to medium, no matter if you select high on the settings menu.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• yes. It is absolutely horrible and prevents enjoying flights in the DV20. I’m a real world student pilot on the DV20 and I can say visibility is not at all like this. This issue actually made me go back to 2020 to practice.

Reported for the Savage Cub here:

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
The Zlin Savage Cub Cockpit Glass is Semi-Opaque, particularly when viewing directly ahead.

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue:
Zlin Savage Cub

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
No 3rd-Party or Community Addons (default installation) / Yes

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
Every time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Choose Free Flight, set the flight conditions to preset / clear skies & time of day to around midday (local). The weather & exact time is not important - these settings just show the problem most clearly.
  2. Start the Zlin Savage Cub either cold & dark & Shift-C to enter the cockpit; or on a runway.
  3. Focus on the area along the edges of the glass. Notice the grey tinge that covers most of the glass, except at the edges (Pic #1, below).
  4. When in flight, this transparency "greyness’ issue becomes very noticable (Pic #2). When viewing to the left (Pic 3) you can clearly see a dividing line.
  5. When viewing to the right (Pic #4) the whole glass area just looks wrong, particularly the circluar object attached to the glass.

The canopy glass is fogged up, making it difficult to see the scenery clearly.
The Extra330LT has a greenish canopy, while the Pitts S-2S has a white, transparent canopy even when viewed from the outside.

Additionally while we’re flying towards the sun, the spinning propeller creates an unrealistic shadow on the canopy, causing noticeable stuttering visual effect. It is visible at least on DV-20.

Just to add, this problem exists with the King Air 350 too. Something I haven’t seen mentioned is it impacts the screens too - it’s like they’re in direct sunlight even when they’re not:

Could this be related to lights and GNS530 screen glowing during night time? I wonder…

PMS50 GTN750 does not do this only Asobo GNS530.

I have the same opacity issue
