 Thank you for using the Bug section, using templates provided will greatly help the team reproducing the issue and ease the process of fixing it.

Are you using Developer Mode or made changes in it?

Yes (to get coordinates), but did not make any changes with dev mode turned on.

Have you disabled/removed all your mods and addons?

Yes

Brief description of the issue:

Some of the mountains near Milford Sound airport (NZMF) are stretched. In a few cases, there are some mountains that have some completely black textures (I don’t know if that’s the result of the mountain being in shadows when the aerial photography was taken). I’ll give some coordinates below.

Provide Screenshot(s)/video(s) of the issue encountered:

I don’t know if I got everything, but here are a lot of examples:

-44.684103, 167.926387

This is the other side of that mountain:
-44.699006, 167.950110

Same mountain. Just panning down:
-44.696906, 167.956808

-44.728236, 167.923869

-44.743280, 167.946818

I don’t know what’s going on here, but it looks like there may have been a giant shadow here or something, but this is right next to the last screenshot:
-44.740617, 167.960697

-44.710895, 167.914791

-44.709859, 167.897491

-44.679587, 167.871689

-44.657425, 167.862076

More black textures (this is right next to the area of the previous screenshot):
-44.639279, 167.857742

I’m going to go wide on this screenshot because there’s a lot of it:
-44.626863, 167.860502

More black:
-44.615946, 167.880674

-44.596285, 167.863418

-44.614242, 167.936643

-44.604014, 167.953284

-44.613978, 167.967110

For a bonus, I’ll throw in one more screenshot where some of it looks blue. I tried it in different lighting, and it always looked blue:
-44.629093, 168.007384

Again, I don’t know if I got everything. It’s very easy to get lost in those mountains, and furthermore, you could probably go in concentric rings going outward and find even more.

ICAO or coordinates (DevMode > Options > Display position)

Near NZMF, but see the screenshots section for coordinates.

Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

  1. Spawn at NZMF.
  2. Drone around or use Developer Mode to teleport to the coordinates given above. (Dev Mode > Tools > Teleport Window). The coordinates given are the locations of the textures, not the location of the camera where the screenshots were taken.

Caused by low quality satellite capture and uncorrected shading e.g. Sicily’s northwest coast which is also shocking but there are other areas too. I’m pretty sure Asobo will say what they always say, that this will be fixed over time when better source material becomes available. Nonetheless you are right to bring it to their attention so they can put it on their ‘shopping list’.

Edit: I just noticed the OP and I feel a bit silly … I’m sure he knows all this as well as I do :flushed:.

Yes this is disappointing, since the great NZ update I have been focussed on it a bit lately, and there’s a lot of this going on.

Yes it’s pretty ugly round there (and also N Sicily coast as also mentioned above).

The sim just struggles with steep mountains and cliffs all over the world. Presumably because satellites take images from above and that doesn’t work for cliffs, we are looking at them side on.

For me Milford Sound is the big disappointment of WU12, the rest of it looks fantastic. (Also all of the windsocks are messed up but there are many threads on those already.)
