I’ve been having a terrible time with this this weekend. I bought game pass and tried to download the game friday ngiht. Today, after deciding to try and close and re-launch the app since download speeds haven’t moved past 3Mb/s (not even a megabyte per second, it’s horrendous), it isn’t resuming the download anymore, but saying that I don’t have enough space on my disk to install the game. I had about 200GB free on my D drive at the beginning of all of this, but I think I managed to get through 100gb of the whole thing up to this point. It took 2 entire days to get that far, and my speeds keep getting slower and slower (started at about 25Mb/s for a couple minutes, then 8mb/s for 12 hrs, then 3mbs. I don’t know if I should uninstall the app and try again, or how I could get the game to recognize that a lot of it should have been installed by now. I’m not a partitioning wizard though; so I can’t tell where all my files are. The folder that I made on my D drive for the install is apparently only 2GB big, and there is data in my C drive appdata, so I don’t know if I somehow messed up the install or what. I just don’t want to lose 40 hours of download progress if it’s still going to take 40 more. Not my best first impression of the game
I think 200GB may not be enough. When you installed it I expect the store checked the size against the initial download, but then when you start MSFS it downloads heaps more mandatory content and maybe this is additive to the size? I don’t have any hard numbers to hand but I vaguely remember it needing closer to 300GB.
content manager is downloading really slow with this last update and its taking way longer to get flying now. Like 5 minute load times. something is up
Thanks, I just removed another 150GB from my drive and it looks like i’m ready to go again, I just don’t know that it’s going to respect that I already have 148GB downloaded in a WpSystem folder… I don’t know what specifically it is, but I guess we’ll see
The reason it needs so much space is its downloading compressed data and the needs the space to decrompress it all too.
The download speeds are affecting everyone by the looks of it too.
Same here. Barely made it through the mandatory update of about 800Mb yesterday after 20 or 25 successive restarts back to the “zero-downloaded” mark. Maybe the server is doing a checksum, realizes the file is corrupted, and then starts the whole download cycle over again??? It’s definitely something on the MS “server” side. although this is the first mandatory update for me since AAU2 so maybe that messed things up in download manager on our side. Then I tried to download WU IV in content manager and gave up after 20 min…it never made it past the 2-3% mark before starting the download all over again.
My network connections are all fine…Speedtest showing 700-850Mbit/sec on FiOS 1Gb fibre optic.
They better get this fixed before the next mandatory update or no one will have a working simulator anymore.
I can relate to this problem myself. Gets a download speed of 500 Mpbs on other downloads, but achieves a maximum of 100 Mbps here. It has improved over time, when I was only achieving 50Mbps

Yes

Using a VPN (Proton VPN) mostly helps. This is very unlikely to be my ISP throttling at least for me, because I changed ISP, and the issue still occurs. Really annoying to download at sub 3Mbps when you must install a 50GB update

If you are using Proton VPN, try Japan. I found that consistently gave me better results, as I logged here. Even with the same IP address in the CDN, VPN established gave the best results.
Part of that problem might be that this weekend, starting Friday and leading up to today, (Tuesday. 2023.07.04), is the Forth Of July, (Independence Day), holiday weekend in the U.S. (Almost) everyone has off, and the flight simmers, (along with the game pass users, and all the other on-line Xbox gamers), are on line and probably saturating the servers.
Note that just about everywhere in the US probably has NOTAMs advising people to stay above 1000’ AGL or so, unless you want to be a fireworks target!
