Extremely Slow Loading

Hello,

I’m trying to play FS2020 on my computer and the loading times are extremely slow. Most of the time, it takes me over 10 minutes to load the initial menu… if it even ever loads, and then once I select a flight, it takes another 5-10 minutes or so to get in game.

During this time, my CPU processor never exceeds 5% utilization, and my network card also remains under-utilized.

I’m playing on the Xbox GamePass for PC.

PC specs:
R9 3900X
32gb ram
Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD
MSI 6gb GTX 1060

Game Version: 1.26.5.0
No mods aside from Salty747, but removing that makes zero difference.

All other games load fine, almost instantly, with zero issues.

It’s been slower than normal in the past 2-3 days! I think they have some sort of server/data issue which they haven’t figured out yet! Hope they do. Knock on wood I haven’t had CTDs like many other have!

If you look at your PC, it’s already on the low end of the spectrum. And when you then see how much data MSFS has to shovel, I think the times are “very” normal. But then if you can play fluently… - make yourself a coffee and be happy.

What do you mean?

My PC is waaaaaaaaaay above the recommended system requirements… there is no reason it should take a 4.5ghz 12 core, 24 thread processor 20 minutes to get in flight.

Even while waiting at the loading screens, my CPU utilization stays under 5%.

Like what is actually happening at this screen? Why is it stuck here for 10 minutes, while neither the CPU, ram, SSD, network, or gpu are getting hit hard?

Sorry if I offended you.
I have an i9-10900, 32GB, 2070super, all Samsung m.2 ssd - and I’m not much faster than you. It’s just the way it is with MSFS, it’s always been like that and will always be like that.
We are always lagging behind with our PCs.

PS
Just for fun, I had a PC calculate the MSFS with full resolution and it was more than 5,000€ afterwards.
But the load time to execution will not be significantly faster.

I’m not offended, I just want to figure out what is going on here… if you are having the same load times with a similar setup, the issue is not our computers, but the software itself. What is the software doing during those long loading periods where it isn’t using CPU, GPU, NIC, or RAM? What is the hold up/system waiting for?

There is absolutely zero reason it should take 20 minutes to load a game with computers such as ours, zero excuses… if this is truly “the way it is”, then something fundamentally needs to change with the developers otherwise this issue should have been patched years ago. FS2020 really is not that demanding of a game… and when it does load, I get 60fps at 1080p, no problems.

There are already some posts on this topic in this forum, but nobody has a solution.

Yeah I’ve seen a few of the other threads, but everyone seems to be in a slightly different situation.

Here’s another weird datapoint: When I turn on a VPN and set it to west coast USA (I am in Taiwan), my game loads significantly faster… however, once I’m in the game I get an error message that says I can’t use the streaming service due to low bandwidth once I’m actually in flight…

So maybe my issue is related to what BossRaccoon7630 said about server and data issues?

My update download speeds are horrendously slow as well, with or without VPN. I’m talking about like .25 of a Mbit/s… when my connection is fine and can easily get 10-15 Mbit/s on Steam updates and 50+ Mbit/s during speed tests.

A few things come to mind for me…

what capacity is the of your hard drive, how much space is still free?
Have you tried shutting down all other software and background tasks running on the taskbar?
Have you tried resetting your router?
Have you tried running the sim in off-line mode to clarify if connection to the servers/bandwidth is contributing to loading times?

In any case 10 minutes to reach the main menu with nothing in community folder is not right.
Should not take not more than 2/3 minutes even with a slow computer unless there is a bandwidth issue between your pc and the MS servers.
Most likely an issue at the server end, from my experience.

Yes, it seems to be like an issue with MS servers?

I noticed today that, if I launch at an airport I’ve flown at a lot previously, it also loads significantly faster. Wonder if it’s a lack of servers in the Taiwan area, maybe? Most companies already have datacenters here though, so kind of strange.

In the final stage, close the network and instantly enter the game. The game built-in store is the culprit for the slow loading of the game!
