F-18 Gear Won't Retract

Gear handle in VC corresponds to Bravo Throttle gear handle movements — but the gear does not retract in flight? What am I doing wrong? Is there a gear lock I have to release?

[PC - MS Store version, HC Alpha & Bravo]

How fast were you flying?
The gear only retracts below 250kts.

I’m new to the F-18 and will check, but I don’t think I hit 250 right after takeoff?

If you take off with full afterburner, you can easily hit 250 knots before you’ve even left the airfield, given the way they’ve modeled the plane in the sim with no external stores - so no weight and drag from external tanks, sensor pods and weapons.

Thanks all. Doesn’t afterburner require a separate binding/command? I merely gave it lots of throttle to take off - would afterburner kick in automatically on takeoff?

The current implementation is bugged, which is why you need to fiddle with controls options and set a binding to enable afterburners - Asobo acknowledges as much in the release notes for SU7. That said, the airplane is very light and “slick” in the sim - it will go like a bat out of hell off the ground, even without afterburners. If you’re taking off from a long runway you could still easily exceed 250 knots before you know it.

Does the Bravo Throttle have a default profile that’s already mapped to the gear controls? If so, try to use the default profile and use that control to retract/deploy the gear.

I’m using Logitech X-56 when I’m flying the F/A-18. And I mapped them to Gear Up on one switch, and Gear Down on another switch. And they work just fine.

Yes, I have been using the Bravo gear switch successfully with every aircraft since beta testing the sim more than a year ago.

For what it’s worth, I did a couple tests tonight at PHNL taking off from the default spawn point at the west end of Runway 8L. With afterburner, I can hit about 415 knots from brakes release to the point I’m passing over the eastern end of the runway threshold. Without afterburner (full military power) and not even retracting the gear, I can still exceed 350 knots at the same approximate distance.

So yeah, please be sure to raise gear ASAP after rotation to be sure you’re doing so at <250 knots.

Thank you. Will look into that.
