Folks, one or two posts going off-topic are okay, but if you want to talk about this other issue, create another topic, please.
I never thought about trying this but it makes sense. I’ll give it a go after work.
That’s how the Saitek X52 works. The throttle has two detents. One on the high side and one on the low side.
I plan on mapping the afterburners to the high side of the throttle. The low side I’m going to use for reverse thrusters on the airliners.
Okay thanks to the tips above, after mapping the Toggle Afterburner to my HOTAS throttle axis, it behaves as it “should” - major kudos to those who figured this out and are sharing that info with the community.
That said, I still can’t figure out how to actually completely shut down the aircraft. Is there no cockpit switch(es) to cut off fuel flow to the engines completely? Do I need to map ANOTHER special keybind to term them off? Even after turning off the generator switches and the battery, the engines appear to be running at low idle.
Secondly, for my now-venerable low-end machine (which was pretty high end five years ago) this plane is a frames-killer. Around Honolulu this morning with live weather but all traffic turned off, I could barely eake out 20-22 fps with major stutters (some down into the single digits) and terrible audio stutters to match, especially when switching views to external or back. When I knocked my graphics settings down from High End to Medium, I could hit 30fps but it still dipped into the 24-27 fps range, but at least things were smooth and flyable.
By contrast, the very same flight conditions in the very same area, I was able to maintain my usual steady 30 fps at High End with both the DC Designs F-14 and FlyingIron P-38. Hopefully my brand new PC (coming tomorrow, with luck) will handle the F-18 better.
i can not found how to set afterburner with throttle, is it in throttle settings? toggle afterburner want only key or button(set it same button, what i use for brakes)
thank you, i move second throttle without reaction, so i thought with my case it works only with keys/buttons… gone test it
so if i’ll do same with reverse it will use idle throttle zone as reverse?
no way, without pressing bind no afterburner, i select same axis what used for throttle
That worked, thanks ![]()
I have the same question: is it actually possible to assign the afterburner to the throttle axis?
I did so (with a HOTAS Warthog Throttle, to be specific) and while the “JOYSTICK L-AXIS Z+” is now (seemingly) assigned to TOGGLE AFTERBURNER I do not see the afterburner getting activated, no matter how far I push the throttle (back or forth).
So what is the trick here? Or do we have to assign to a proper key after all?
UPDATE: I just assigned to TOGGLE AFTERBURNER to some button on the throttle (button/switch “9”) and this worked. But I wasn’t able to assign this action to the actual throttle axis (such that it kicks in at around 80% or so, that would be optimal).
It may be some quirk of your Warthog but assigning the Toggle Afterburner function to the throttle axis of my X52 HOTAS absolutely works, with no need for a button press at all.
same situation except joy x65f, i mapped same button what i use for wheels brakes, very convenient
i have an one thinking, must be some specific joystickse’s axis msfs see same way as button, as wrote other user, like virtual button or something like that, but axis of another joysticks it’s see like only axis, and may be, guys with same situation, where axis no works, have to buy another joystick(JaSt KiDding)… assign another axis, may be rotary or right throttle… i think i stay with button and axis for now, it’s ok enough for me
Have you been able to change to the new avatar? Thanks. I have not been able to yet.
just back to default, i get it after guy, who was asked “how do you change pilot?” answer “i don’t know it was as is from start”
Yes, setting the pilot avatar to default (options → Misc) did the trick.
Thanks! I am going to try that ![]()
