FA/18 Can't start both engines cold & dark under low temperature

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: When spawning cold & dark at a parking spot in free flight with the FA-18 in MSFS 2024, I cannot start both engines. I can start the right engine, but then the left wont start, and vice versa. No combination of bleed air settings will change this. After the you start one engine (any engine) the other will stay at 22 RPM & 56-58%Nozzle and refuse to light up.

*** found that this only happens in cold temps below freezing

Using the “auto-start” keybind, the plane will also not start, so there is no way for me to fly this plane cold & dark.

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue: Boeing FA\18 Super Hornet

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

: yes, I did clear my community folder i also cleared my streamed planes and even re-installed MSFS 2024, still the same problem.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

: Every time I spawn this plane in cold & dark in an area where temps are below freezing

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Choose Free flight in an area with temps below freezing using live weather, pick Boeing FA\18 Super Hornet
  2. Choose a parking spot on an airport and click fly now
  3. Turn Battery switch on, both generators to norm
  4. Turn on APU wait for it to fire up and get green light
  5. Engage right engine starter, do nothing but wait. engine will start
  6. Set engine bleed to norm (both) & engage left engine starter
Note: step 6 could have any possible engine bleed setting, and will still have the same resulting bug.

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:

Logitech Autopilot panel & switch panel (tested with them disconnected, no difference still bugged)
Logitech throttle quadrant

*Note i tried to start the plane with all peripherals disconnected to rule that out, and only using the mouse, this bug is still present.

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?

no, i used it once to view my FPS but then turned it off

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?

Nvidia GTX 1660 Super

• no

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• can start both engines
check out that video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqaF4K8DvV8
Described sequence is slightly different than your steps

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

Here’s a video demonstrating the issue. I added “turn on anti skid” as its the only thing i saw missing from my procedure & the video you linked. No difference unfortunately.

That’s weird then, I was able to start both engines during my test, will try again…

Edit: 2nd test, no issue:

Do you have any addons installed ?, if so, make sure to test having them disabled.

This is a known issue if the OAT is near or below freezing. Can’t find the bug report, but it’s definitely been listed here for the F/A-18 and A400M, maybe others.

You’re right !. I have setup a temperature of -3c and 1st engine (right) does not start.
I have seen the report for the A400M but not for FA/18.

@AcquiredWings96 : what the OAT at the airport you are starting to ?. Can you start at a different airport with higher OAT or setup a custom weather with higher temperature.

Wow so yes that’s 100% it. I live in Canada and so that’s where I fly most and live weather oat is usually below freezing right now in my area.

Set to custom weather and raised temp, both engines start.

It’s worth noting that I had this same issue with the aero vodochody L-39 albatross as well.

should this post be closed and marked as resolved? I’m quite sure this plane should be able to start below freezing temps… I didn’t find that bug report when searching myself

No, this is a bug. Would you mind updating the title/description/steps to reflect that engines does not start with low temperatures ?

For sure, I updated it

This aircraft has the potential to be a great aircraft but has so many minor issues that need to be fixed. I find that it’s even worse in 2024. I’m disappointed that they didn’t do this as a classic.
