I’m trying to do bush flights but keep getting “you over stressed the aircraft/engine and caused critical damage” and then forced to start the leg completely over. I’m not a pilot IRL, so I normally play with stress damage off.
However the bush flights seem to override my settings with settings of their own, locking stress damage on and preventing me from changing them back. The result is I keep randomly over-stressing and having to start legs over, normally right as I’m taking off or (the most irritating) right when I’m approaching the destination airport.
Is there any way to stop my settings from getting overridden or change the default settings for bush flights? I can deal with having crash damage on (though I still don’t like my game settings getting overridden on principle – it’s my game after all, I should be able to play it the way I want to) because at least it’s obvious what a crash is. However having stress damage on is just turning amazing bush flights into a giant source of aggravation.

These flights are intended as a sort of challenge, so that’s why they come with their own settings.
Generally what is causing overstress is high airspeed (going outside of the green range on your speed indicator) combined with big control inputs.
So in general, my advise would be to slow down, and smooth out your control inputs.

My understanding was that the challenge in bush flights was supposed to be the VFR navigation, not flying the plane itself. For that you have landing challenges.
Am I wrong? If not, then why are we forced into certain damage settings on the planes themselves?

I’ve never seen an exact specification of the challenge goals, so I wouldn’t be able to tell you. But these are the limits that are set, and I guess you’ll have to accept those.
Personally I don’t really see the reward of VFR navigation if you’re going to overstress the plane in flight, or crash on landing, but hey, that’s just me.
In real Bush trips; the landing IS the biggest challenge. Your wings not falling off half way through is pretty important as well.
That’s not really unique to bush flights though. You never want to crash land or have your wings fall off.
In any case, you do you. If that’s part of the challenge for you, that’s great. For me the stress damage specifically isn’t a challenge, it’s just irritating. Especially since not having a joystick makes it difficult to not accidentally turn hard enough to trigger an over-stress, even if I knew what that limit was.
I was kinda hoping there was a workaround that I wasn’t seeing. Like editing a file or something.
I think you can edit something to change the plane you’re using. Don’t think anything is available to change the realism/difficulty settings. Maybe because some of these bush trips are linked to achievements. But maybe someone else can help you out with that.
Would still like for a way to disable over-stressing. Had another flight ruined by a over-stress “crash”. Was straight and level at the time.
I would much rather spend time navigating than constantly worried about seemingly random over-stresses. This is why I normally fly with it disabled.
No plane will over-stress while flying straight and level, unless you’re redlining the engine and are overspeeding. Maybe slow down a bit.
I understand your request, but until you find a solution, slowing down will be your workaround (keep the speed needle in the green range.
Totally agree @PastaandBread ! Just trying to chill through Hawaii and keep overstressing the plane, when that’s exactly what I want…high speed and tight turns through Waimea Canyon. PITA
I have the same problem. I try to fly from the cockpit veiw and i notice that all electronics suddenly disengage with all the lights out. Some of my flight controls inoperative, and thay is when this start to go out of control sending the aircraft into a dive or role or climb.
I usually trash and have restart the lag.
But that doesn’t stop there it happens again and again.
